Title: I-16 footage from recent airshow
Post by: Gman on April 17, 2015, 02:52:50 PM

A couple of the turns the pilot does near the end show how nimble that little plane was, really good footage IMO, at 1:56 the pilot does a left hand turn that ends up being a 180 which happens in only a handful of seconds.

Thank you very much, Gman.  I have a new Father's Day present to put on the list.

A revolutionary design in it's day. No doubt the best fighter of the mid-30s.

Very cool,thanks for showing this.

One of my biggest gripes about Ah these days is the sound, the default sounds to be sure. They just lack all feeling and uniqueness each engine has. Kinda sad really, i hope that's something that changes in AhIII.

I hope that Hitech removes the flaperons. It has both flaperons and split flaps. No Type# ever had that. The flaperons were replaced with split flaps by the end of the Spanish civil war due to pilot fatalities landing. It would have killed anyone using them. The Type24\28 we have only had split flaps and they are too short at that. They should extend out to the ailerons.

If you want a great and distinctive sound, check out this Boomerang:

Sounds positively wicked, from about the 0:35 second mark. :x

The bbcode probably hides the embedded link if you don't have flash installed. Here I'll ripsnort it for you:

Caldera, the Boomerang looks like an interesting bird. How did it stack up to the Zeke?

Caldera, the Boomerang looks like an interesting bird. How did it stack up to the Zeke?

It would get out-turned, just like everything else.  A rather low top speed of 305 means the Zero would run it down too, but it could make a good low alt scrapper.  It's small, highly maneuverable (reportedly more so than a P-40, which turns well) and armed like a Spit V.  Not quite a B-239, but still dangerous to tangle with.

This thread has some good info:
