Title: When you were born
Post by: Dragon Tamer on April 30, 2015, 09:40:13 PM
Stumbled across this today, it tells you the most popular song and movie on the day you were conceived:
http://www.whenwasiconceived.com/
Alternatively, this one (same site, different page) tells you what was going on the day you were born:
http://www.whenwasiconceived.com/birthdate-info
When I was conceived the #1 song was "Emotions" by Mariah Carey and the #1 movie was "Other People's Money."
On the day I was born the #1 song was... wait for it... (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6v9at5RlFu4) :rofl :rofl :rofl :rofl
The #1 movie on that day was "A League of Their Own"

"Michael" by The Highwaymen, "The Parent Trap". However, I was born a full five weeks overtime due to the doctors waiting for "nature to do its task" knowing my mother had been taking Thalidomide during her pregnancy.
Taking this into account it's no wonder that my birthday song was "I Can't Stop Loving You" by Ray Charles, the movie being "Lonely Are the Brave" starring Kirk Douglas.
Yet another complain: Back then when I was born the novelties came here delayed by even years. Some hit tunes never made it here. Of course some people listened to Radio Luxembourg and such, but the majority had to survive with one radio channel and no television - there was a delay even between the biggest cities and the rest of the country. It wasn't until the early Eighties with new medias like MTV that we started to follow entertainment in real time. That said, the number one tune for three months by the time when I was conceived was Jay Epae's "Putti Putti", my birthday song again for three months in a row being the Finnish Eurovision Song Contest candidate "Tipi Tii" by Ms. Marion Rung according to the monthly single records (45 rpm) sales list published by a youth oriented pop magazine. And yes, youth meant people in their late teens or early twenties most of whom had earned the money to buy the magazine.

How do people know the date they were conceived? That falls well into the "Too Much Information" bucket in my family. Who the heck discusses this with their parents?
I have 3 kids and have no idea what the date of conception of any of them was......ironically the #1 song on the day I was born was "Can't Get No Satisfaction" by the Rolling Stones. Clearly incorrect....
:)

Curval, I just discussed this matter with my wife, telling about the website in question. For her it was clear as daylight: Simply calculate 280 days backwards from your birthday, add some days before and after. The same as the first link does. They teach that on eighth grade or so (no need to discuss it with your parents) and should I ask my daughters (16 and 19) about it, they'd look at me with a pitiful look and say that it's common knowledge and as a father I should know it.
I also noticed that you've been here for fourteen years, which I believe means you should be way over 20 now. I suppose by now you already know how children are made instead of believing in the Delivery Stork.

The methodology used is flawed. Add "some days"???
What if I was born by C section? Ooops.

The methodology is what they use in maternity clinics and it tells when the baby should be born. I was born five weeks late. I know some babies come out several months too early. Most babies fit in the "add some days" rule, though. The majority rules. Democracy...

Ok, so it is a wildly inaccurate estimate of the date of conception.

What else would you expect? Sperm can live inside a woman's womb for a week waiting for the egg, so even if you knew the exact dates and times your parents were calling the stork you wouldn't be able to calculate the date of conception.
Then again, for this kind of amusement it's accurate enough. Aren't top ten songs charted by a weekly basis, movies maybe even more seldom?
It's also accurate enough for medical purposes, i.e. to find out when the baby should be viable without an incubator or such.

The purpose of the thread was to find the most popular song at particular dates. One of the dates was the date of conception. It is silly, given the inaccuracy of the date as you so adamantly reveal. So, rather than try and school me on biology just accept that is a dumb thing to try and figure out. Date of birth, sure. Date of conception, stupid...if you are trying to figure out which song was #1 on that date. Clear now?

Clear. If I weren't so unsure about what the emoticons might mean, you would have seen a bunch of them by now in my posts. And again, for people living somewhere outside the USA the charts would be different anyway.
