Glamorous Glenn III crashed in NC today. Apparently it developed engine problems while flying above a low ceiling. The 2 pilots bailed out (I guess that makes it a TF-51?). Both survived but one was hospitalized in stable condition.
I guess as far as WWII birds go a P-51 is relatively expendable, as there are still quite a few of them around.
This page has the story and pics but it changes continuously so it won't be there long:

Glad to hear the pilots made it!!!

I am very glad to hear the pilot and passenger got out. I hope whoever got hurt recovers soon.
It is a terrible loss everytime one of these planes goes down, regardless of how many remain.
:(

Sissies... People don't bail from a warbird!

did they open their chutes 5 feet from the ground, in case any FDB was around?

Well actuall what happened was they were own the way to an air show in which Chuck yager was to fly the 51 personally...
Well inflight the engine began to over heat. AS they were going to do an emergenct landing at a near by airport the engine caught fire.....the pilots ejected out....and one landed in a tree....
The pilot did pilot good....he could have lead the plane to a populated area..which could have resulted in some deaths...
Even though it is rare that Compliment pilots who think of other lives besides there own......but then we have potato peelers who dont look at that and make dumb bellybutton jokes.....oh well
