Title: How much bandwidth does the game use to play
Post by: dafez on May 02, 2015, 09:39:05 PM
Salute all....especially the C-Hawks!

Sadly when I moved last year I moved to an area that only has satellite Internet available for a high-speed option.  With pings of 2 SECONDS it has made game play impossible.

Up here in the great white north we do not have fair pricing for mobile data on cell networks.  I am considering tethering my PC to my phone for the purpose of playing again.  My question is how much data does AH use?  IE 50mb/hr of online play etc

Salute!

I just measured about 22 MBytes/hour in a busy area of AH.  (That doesn't include terrain, skin, or update download.)

Edit: Actually there were skins being downloaded tonight, so that value probably includes skin download.

The exact amount is difficult to measure.  It will depend on how many players are in your area of concern.  If you really are having to count bytes.

Open the "Local Area Connection" in the Network Sharing panel, jet before you launch the game, taking care to make sure all other applications are disabled, and Microsoft updates are disabled as well.

In the "Local Area Connection Status" panel it will show you the number of bytes sent and received.  Note the numbers and launch the game.  Play for a period of time, in normal play conditions for you, then exit the game and note the new counts in the status panel.

That should give you an idea of how much data activity there is on your connection.
