Title: "633 Squadron"

I was 7 when it hit the theaters. West Side Story debuted in '61. I mention that because of Chakiris.
As a kid, this movie enthralled me. Bought it on Amazon today; it's in my vid library now. This will be good walk down memory lane.
So much about the characters to hook a kids imagination: the Indian pilot, the Brit with a lost hand and his hook (reminds me of the "The Best Days of Our Lives" yet that Sailor's wounds were real. He won an Oscar for his performance if I recall correctly) -- sorry if I omitted other great aspects. Prob have not viewed it in decades. Also, that Scottish actor who was also in "The Great Escape" from 1963, loved him as a kid. Oh, the silly reminiscences of an old duff.
And I was always a Cliff Robertson fan after PT 109 debuted in 1963.

I saw it at the base theater at RAF Brize Norton. I rolled out of the movie and climbed aboard my Curry Monte Carlo five-speed road bike. The bicycle was transformed into a shrieking Mossie and I must have ridden around the base for 2 hours at 'low level'.
Thanks for the memory boost, Hap. That was one of the happiest days of my boyhood.

Hap, it's a great movie! I've seen it countless times and there is another Mossie movie that I dont recall the name of thats a must see. Ducky from NCIX,again I dont recall his name was one of the main characters.
BTW I saw PT109 just a few weeks ago!

633 always been a fave of mine but the one that is still my "go to" movie is "Reach for the sky", the Douglas Bader story.

They destroyed real, live Mossies in that film.

I guess I love the flying sequences, but movie cliches were different back then and they don't age well.
The books are actually pretty good, some decent character development. In one they land on a secret base on a frozen lake in Norway, in another they help resisters destroy a rocket fuel train as the baddies close in.
"The Purple Plain" is a good film that happens to feature a Mossie, drama about a semi-suicidal pilot finding the will to live again, Gregory Peck.

Been watching this off and on in preparation for May 30th. No actual Mossies will be hurt.

The Mosquitos used in the film were:
RS709 - flown in the film (now on display at the National Museum of the United States Air Force at Wright-Patterson AFB in Dayton, Ohio) RS712 - flown (now owned by Kermit Weeks, on display at the EAA AirVenture Museum, Oshkosh, Wisconsin) RS715 - cockpit section only RS718 - written off in simulated crash sequence. TA639 - flown (now on show at the RAF Museum Cosford, Shropshire) TA719 - flown (now on show at the Imperial War Museum Duxford) TJ118 - cockpit section only TV959 - at RAF Bovingdon Airfield, but not flown TW117 - flown (now on show at National Museum of Aviation, Bodo, Norway)
There was another Mossie movie, Mosquito Squadron from 1969.

A must for every Buff's collection. I love Mossies and this film is a stand out. Its in my collection thats for sure.
