Title: Any metal Heads out there?
Post by: Plazus on May 13, 2015, 08:11:33 PM
Good evening ladies and gents,

I'm looking for some more metal music to add to my collection. I've been listening to a lot of Nightwish, Power Quest, Stratovarius, and Kamelot. I'm wondering if any of you folks got any other recommendations to add to my playlist? I'm looking mostly for symphonic metal, power metal, with a blend of folk in the mix. Metal ballads is also a plus!

I know a guy with a plate in his head.

He flew out of the back of a pickup.  Wasn't right before and certainly isn't any better now.

Hey man got some great metal for you just full of great musicianship. Unfortunately, I cannot put songs from youtube because my work comp has youtube blocked. But ill show the names of songs for you to check out. These are metal bands that are actually good.

Amon Amarth- Twilight of the Thunder God, War of the gods, Death in fire. Very Viking Metal but so good and awesome Solos

Eluveitie- Calling the rain. Awesome song. They have a lot of different styles and incorporate a lot of different instruments. Great Musicians. Folk Metal

Gojira- Just in case you want to hear what a really powerful band Sounds like. Id recommend Listening to "Born In Winter" " Love" and Oroborus, They have a live show on youtube called "live at Garrorock" something like that... Seriously awesome concert. They are what you call a Rhythm technical band.

Opeth-- I could go on and on about Opeth. Probably some of the best musicians of our time. You can go from "Bleak" "Ghost of Peridition" "The Grand Conjuration" "The lotus Eater" to "Harvest" and "burden" ( some of the most beautiful songs), this band has it all. Different CDs full of metal, some full of harmony music. Just a very dynamic band and my favorite band today. CDs like Watershed hold some very great metal, While CDs like Damnation are all melody and harmony songs. Such great musicians.

Shade Empire- Where do I get started. So epic. Their new CD is pretty awesome. Check out Ruins, Omega Acrane, Nomad, Malicious Winds (very powerful song) . Their older stuff is great too. Ravine, Conjuration, Pain and pleasure ( has such a great build up in the end) They are a really cool band.

Trivium (their first CD Ascendancy) gunshot to the head of trepidation, Ascendancy, Like flies to light. They were the first band that got me into heavy metal. This CD has some great songs!!!

Periphery- A newer band but they are starting to get recognized and have some good stuff, I am just learning them myself. I really like the song Buttersnips

August Burns Red- Not too familiar with their stuff but they have some great songs. Just see what you like.

MY PICK FOR THE 3 MOST EPIC METAL SONGS EVER!!!

1. Winds of Plague--- A cold day in hell/Anthems Apocalypse.. Seriously the most badass song ever made.... Just listen to the whole thing
2. Dimmu Borgir----- In Deaths Embrace- Probably one of the most beautiful heavy metal songs ever made. (Opeth has a lot too though)
3. Between the Buried and Me---Mordecai--- Just listen to the whole thing. Has an beautiful ending. Doesn't sound impressive at first but realizing the technicality and creation of the song puts it way up there on the top songs.

Lots of different styles here!!!!

Hope you check them out and like em, they are some of my favorite bands.

Also check out "Unearth".  A listen to the CD The March. It was the first metal CD I ever bought and every song is badass. They absolutely shred!!

See I'm almost the complete opposite.  Yes I like the early stuff, specifically Ride the Lightning and Master of Puppets.  I do however enjoy parts of the Black Album and I really enjoy Reload.

Since you prefer the earlier stuff, what did you think about Death Magnetic?

I am lean more towards hard rock myself, Guns N Roses, Aerosmith, ect and only occasionally lean towards heavy metal. That probably explains why I like Load and Reload.  Personal preference.  I seem to be in the minority when it comes to load and Reload I have noticed.  :bolt:

My father took me to 4 aerosmith concerts growing
Up. Their 9 lives tours and album were just fantastic. I have much respect for stephen Tyler and Joe Perry.

Would have loved to see Iron Maiden and Pink Floyd live in their time.

Opeth is a band that has captured my respect for heavy metal and for songs that really encorporate a lot of dark emotions and then a mastery of tranquility all in one. The band just has brilliant musicianship.

Load and Reload have some great songs on them.  They just don't have the same sound as the previous albums, and its a small pool of people indeed who like the early ones, the Black album, and Load and Reload.  And people have accused Metallica of selling out since the Justice days, that didn't start with the Black album or Load.

IMO they just made what they wanted to make and if it was popular, fine.  I see no evidence of them selling out when they're still making half of their songs five minutes too long to be played on the radio.

they definitely went a different route after black...I do say after Black...because I love "one" but much more of a fan of the Garage days Metallica....

ever give a listen to Flotsam and Jetsam?

you like Maiden and Priest..... Flots is insanely good along those two bands style....(I have heard they are dicks in the real world...but I dont care cant help but Love their music)

I say even better...except the Priest song "Blood red skies" is my anthem....describes me to a tee :rock

Lately I've been listening to this French darksynth artist Perturbator. It's kind of metal but in a 1980's 8-bit Amiga kind of way. Strange, but quite good.
