The level of sweetheartbaggery is already epic in this game. Flying off the map boundaries should be rewarded with a loss of 1000 perk points in all categories and your plane and drones immediately destroyed.
-
Or how about fly off the map and you automatically lose all ordnance and ammo? Then they can fly out there all they want. +1 on something needs to be done.
-
The perk penalty suggested by the OP is a bit much. (Says someone who has fallen asleep online, occasionally.)

You would think that with how seriously HTC takes "cheating" in this game because they do not want any type of reputation of it being done, that you would see a much stronger presence in issues like these on the boards.
Gaming the game isn't "cheating", but if there is enough of it going on I would think that would tarnish the game almost as much. Shades, flying off the map, spies and so on while not as rampant as most players claim I'm sure there are some instances. I know of a number of players who have had shades and have used them to hunt others, or just given info to the other teams.
When the "hiding of carriers" was on a big up swing many discussions where posted on the boards..... well ok complaints. I commented once that I would be happy to let anyone know from either team were the CVs were hidden if they only asked. I believed Hitech himself posted that he would consider that cheating and suspend the player who did that.
So there are some rules to the game, the issue seems to be proving that it is happening and getting that info to the right people (HTC). I would think, that HTC trying to maintain a good cheat/hack free gaming environment would do more to monitor the issues. Either by coading, or by more MODs.
Sorry, the penalty was muted for a week, not suspension.

What HTC takes seriously and won't put up wirh is hacking the game.

Agreed, but getting the reputation of a game where there are "spies", or shades giving away missions, or players who can fly off map and not be shot down isn't a good one either.
A lot of players like this game for the mission/team work aspect. If all there time and energy can be wiped out by a single shade squealing to the other team how many mission/team type players are going to keep trying?
-
It's a form of hysteria that usually has less to do with 'cheating' and more to do with exaggerated suspician (which can snowball and do more damage than any degree of gaming). That's why Dale doesn't take it as seriuosly as you apparently want.

me and at least two others in this thread..... of 5, not to mention many other threads/posts that have been run in the past few years. With more and more players hiding behind the internet these days that grey area of bending and breaking rules is changing. What people wouldn't have done a few years ago now is the norm because they are not held accountable.
As admitted above when I said "while not as rampant as most players claim" but the problem does rear its ugly head more and more often these days. I'm not saying HTC must clamp down on play in the arena and restrict game play, however, a presence in threads like these or players in the game seeing an action taken will go a long way in quelling these complaints. Ignoring them can only make them grow.

Massively increased fuel burn might work. Turn around and save your plane(s)/sortie, or stay off the map and run dry of fuel in less than a sector.
-
Can someone explain what the problem is with a player off the map? I don't intend to be argumentative I honestly don't understand the problem, everybody knows your off map if you are. If anything having the red arrow seems like a more precise locator than darbar in that you know where in the sector the bogey is when the arrow turns into darbar. Also there is at least one map where there is only a half sector on the map and when you go into it you get the arrows, green and red.
-

That's not how the arrow works, it's always at a fixed position for that row (or line) of sectors. It's really just the equivalent of a dar bar, it doesn't point to your position.
Even worse, on many maps you can go far out offmap, up to several sectors. And of course, if going NOE you won't even get the arrow. On some maps, for example, this is an extremely safe way to attack the factories inexplicably position right near the map edges.
-
Fly off of map=kill engine/engines.
Some folks may actually fly off of the map accidentally. This way this will have a brief chance to glide back in play and restart their engine.

+1 Coog. Simple. No extremes.

Hah! Another thing I didn't know, I would have sworn the arrow moved. I think we should write a manual for this game, there is so much that is obscure.
If I was to test how much of a problem this is, statistically speaking, would I do one mission from offmap and one mission on map alternating at the same time over the course of a few weeks or would this be just garbage because of the sample size? Say 21 missions of each?
Also is the list of maps in rotation written down anyware?

........if you fly off the map to the east then you reappear in the west.
The same for the north ---> reappear in the south
The northeast -----> reappear in the southwest
And ect.
That makes it fair for everybody and in certain situations it could cut some time off
of your long flight while you are getting altitude.

Noooo nonono no please no.

Another issue is that on some maps you cannot kill an enemy plane off the map. You can fire all you want, but no damage is registered until you re-enter the maps boundaries.
-
Just set a huge downdraft all the way to the deck (and destruction) when you exit the map boundary. That way if you are playing close to the edge you will know immediately when you are on the wrong side of the line - you suddenly take a huge wind-shear dive towards the ground.
-
Of course, we all say 'just do this' as if we know how easy it would be to make a map boundary do that. ;)
-
Just invoke a 120mph wind moving away from the map on all the borders.
If the map leavers did so accidently and are able to make it back, they earned it.
-
The level of sweetheartbaggery is already epic in this game. Flying off the map boundaries should be rewarded with a loss of 1000 perk points in all categories and your plane and drones immediately destroyed.
The perk loss seems excessive, but I agree with the auto-destruct when you leave the map. There can even be a proximity warning pop-up when you near the edge.
-
It could be something like in Battlefield where the screen gets greyed out and you're given a time limit to get back into the area.
-
Why not you get a popup message at 1000yds from the deadline that crossing it means an insta tower event. Cross it and you are back in the tower you took off from. No perks need be deducted since no one killed you. And if you were part of some group plan, you just screwed your group. Or you just wasted two hours of your life. This would protect those on the throne for an emergency deposit or fallen asleep from too much joy juice in their chair.
It will work out better if an upside is included for inevitable accidents.
Cons:
I guess B29, 163, and 262 pilots can run into it to save their perk points. But, they have to be willing to take the community's response to being that much of a coward. Players will work very hard at catching that on film to share in the forums.
Bomb and bailers would use it to not have to fly home so have their damage to the strat or HQ be insta erased along with any score points if that pilot crosses the deadline instead of landing or bailing over game play airspace.
Tie that to any aircraft shooting rockets or dropping bombs on a strat. I suppose it would promote B-25H mass attacks against strat and the HQ at least once to get around the penalty.
This would probably be a programing PITA for Hitech and he will just ignore this wish.
-
Maybe if they fly off map have a 200 broadcast every 5 minutes that shows their:
Plane (AKA type), map coordinates, altitude, speed, heading and pilot.
Example:
SYSTEM> Joe is off map: Lancasters, (-5,-2), 15k, 300mph, heading E.

the asteroids map functionality would probably be fun for one or two days.
-
Alien abduction, a little probing, and teleportation back to launch base would work.
-
How about this, if some one fly's off the map say about 1000 ft or so, the game will take control of ur plane and auotmatly returns u back to the map.
-
A popup message would be nice. Hitech could hold a contest for the content of that message. Autopilot take over and flight back to game airspace sounds like a good compromise.
-
"Your navigation skills suxors. You will be returned to the map momentarily via our awesome coed skills."

"Your navigation skills suxors. You will be returned to the map momentarily via our awesome coed skills."
So HTC will send a coed to each of our homes and they sit on our laps waiting to take control of the stick if we fly off the map? How did Mrs. Arlo respond to this idea?
-
A swarm of AI RV8s, with the speed of a Tempest and turning ability of a KI43 and quad hizookas should inhabit the lands beyond maps edge.

No... The 20mm chaingun...
-
Did you ever see "The Prisoner"? I'm thinking weather balloons.
-
What happened to the coed idea?? We all want to know what Mrs. Arlo said to Mr. Arlo about a coed in the computer room.
-
She said I can have one but I'll be footing the bill for Mrs. Arlo's masters degree.

:airplane: :devil You know Arlo, I tried that once when my wife was alive and she said OK, but I had to tie her in the back yard till she got used to the idea!

Well! Now this is getting interesting!

actually the asteroids type of map would just make hq raiding easy.
if your on the west side of the map fly out west and end up east next to enemy hq. fly back east after dropping and instantly teleport back to your airspace.

Yep. It would be used as a type of worm-hole...

+1 That is even easier.
Actually I'm in for any way to make exploiting this near impossible that is the easiest for HiTech to code.

Add a 40,000 ft ridge around the map.

never once in my ten years did I see an arrow pointing off the map....
and say to myself...
"OMG what the ^%$# that guy has ruined my #^&$%# game...this is bullcrap no one should be allowed to go off the map....if he goes off the map...then someone else will go off the map....and if they go off the map...then everyone will go off the map...... it will be anarchy.....I must put a stop to this kind of blatantly rude behavior"

Just make it like when a GV hits a tree, you spin all over the place and bounce back onto the map.

And unfortunatley on some maps the only way. If the alternative is to fly up to 10 sectors over enemy territory and bases, the off map alternative seems like a better option. the chance of surviving 5-10 sectors over enemy territory isnt that big. The dispersed strats are not helping the game, it both encourage off map flying and bomb and bailing, on some maps it is a one way trip to some factories due to the distance, most bombers will simply not have the range to make it back.

GLASS WALL!!! Fly off the map, run into a glass wall that sets you in the tower...
-
Can the same process of being disconnected and jumping back into flight be applied to the map boundary?
Reach the edge of the map, game kicks you out, and if you log back in it's pointing you away from map boundary? :salute

If you're worried at all about defending against strat runners on some maps, it's a concern. It's basically near-invisibility and more unpredictability than is available any other way, often giving them a nearly free shot at a strat for no risk.
A solution I think would be nice would be off map, instead of the arrow you show on enemy dot dar. Takes away the advantage, not sure how difficult it would be to coad.
The 'engine goes off when you go off the map' idea sounds good, but I bet someone so inclined could glide a helluva long ways dead stick in a bomber from high enough to still abuse it.
Turn em back, glass wall, blow em up, dot dar... Something along those lines I'd be good with.
Wiley.

Hey, fair enough. Just saying the only reason I care about it. Some of us go looking for other stuff to do, like buffhunting, when there's no big red bar to head towards. ;)

Make it give the message "A gremlin has joined you", and then random parts fall off your plane until you crash

Tonight I just noticed that this isn't quite true. It is true that, on some maps like Compello, the arrow on the map disappears once the enemy flies entirely off the map (and it is also true that you then can't kill the enemy because your bullets go right through him). However, I noticed tonight that the dar bar wraps around to the other side of the map. For example, tonight an enemy went off map at 5,20 but the darbar of him (and the friendly that was chasing him) suddenly showed up at 5,0. When they went to offmap above 6,20 their darbars went from 5,0 to 6,0. So I guess one could look for dar bar at the completely opposite side of the map from the HQ to see if an attack might be inbound.
-
I'm wondering now if we shouldn't EMBRACE the limits of the map by having them wrap around. Add a 1 sector (25 mile) border to the map and then pop them in on the other side - because the WORLD IS ROUND!
-

I agree completely as long as it takes you the real life amount of time to circle the globe and come back around the other side.
Otherwise.................... .NO.
-
How about change that arrow for the dar bar so we can tell if it's 1 or 50 planes off the map.
Not really concerned with a couple of planes off map but 50 planes off map showing as if it is just one is not cool.
