Pre-ordered my copy a few months ago and currently doing a marathon play sessions of Witcher 1 and Witcher 2.  In addition to the game coming out next week, the latest English version of the Witcher books comes out on the same day, which I've also pre-ordered.  Great series of books.

A lot of buzz, very positive buzz - I think I have 2 free copies that came on a coupon when I sent back 2 970s on an RMA and replaced them with 980s recently.  If so, I'll offer one of them to an AH player here.

I heard on some gaming channel or other I was listening to this AM that some of the larger review sites are talking about perfect scores on the review, reminiscent of the old first "Half Life" game that came out in 99 or 2000 or whenever, when nearly every review was 9.5 or 10 and so on.

These games aren't really my "thing", I bought Skyrim and played it for about an hour or two - going to force myself to play through this one though.  I did that with Alien Isolation, and it was well worth it.  Isolation sold over 2.2 million copies, they are projecting far more than that for Witcher 3.  PC games are on the upswing again IMO, at least in many categories - great timing for a new AH game, hopefully this year!

Why you guys playing this? Because of the naked women in the saunas? and the sex scenes? LOL

I bought the game last Tuesday. Needless to say, I'm hooked! My character is at level 8 and completed most of "Family Matters" quest. I just finished meeting the witch (the hot one that invited me to come back and visit her for some intimate time after slaughtering monsters in the cave). I just collected all of the Griffin Armor diagrams and have crafted the trousers for them. Still need to finish crafting out the rest... now to find out where to get the rest of the crafting components. :uhoh

I haven't found a single thing about the game I don't like yet. I've found a few hilarious glitches, namely getting stuck at an invisible wall while trying to ride a horse over a bridge or under a portcullis. Another funny one was where I killed a bandit with a sword strike and flinging him 200 yards up into the air.

The quests are very well written. The sheer amount of content along with voice acting is top notch. Did I mention the combat mechanics? I can't tell you how many times I got :ahand to me from low level monsters in the beginning of the game because I wasn't using everything at my disposal. I like this combat style because it rewards you for using not only your sword, but casting Signs, along with using oils, potions, and food. If you come unprepared, you're going to get effed. It helps to slow down the combat pace by keeping distance and picking off numerous enemies one by one.

When I played Skyrim, I paid little attention to alchemy- I just hack-slashed my way through levels. Not so with this game. :old:

The really cool thing about the Witcher quests is that each play out like a short story, like the books.  Probably some of the best written quests of any RPG since Baldur's Gate.  I'm only level 11 and have been spending most of my time doing the side quests and witcher contracts with some monster hunting while traveling between towns.

I would also recommend playing Witcher 1 and Witcher 2 before playing Witcher 3 because the actions taken in those two games carry over to Witcher 3.  Unlike Mass Effect and the Dragons Age games, decisions in Witcher do have a far more substantial impact on the game, even decisions made in the prior games.

If you haven't read any of The Witcher books, I highly recommend reading them.  Most of the books have been translated into English, with the last two in the Blood Elves saga coming out in 2016 and 2017.  If you're going to read them, I recommend the following order.

1. The Last Wish (short stories that introduce The Witcher)
2. Sword of Destiny (short stories with the last story being the intro to the Blood Elves Saga)
3. Blood of Elves (Blood Elves Saga #1)
4. Time of Contempt (Blood Elves Saga #2)
5. Baptism of Fire (Blood Elves Saga #3)

The last two of the saga, The Swallows Tower (2016) and Lady of the Lake (2017), still have yet to be translated into English.

Thanks for the book recommendations, Ack-Ack. I was actually just at the local book store this past weekend looking for the Witcher books. Only found one, Baptism of Fire. I'll be keeping my eye out for the others and get them when I do.

Amazon has a few on Kindle and the rest on paperback.

Methinks I need to start saving for a faster PC now.
