Just wondering. I had a real nasty intrusive virus recently so I'm hesitant.
I use AVG.

I use Kapersky
I have AH allowed through my firewall and through Kapersky. The only problem I have is with the WWI arena. I have to disable Kapersky if I want to play there, everywhere else is fine.
-
I use ESET, and I turn it off while I play AH.
Check the post from Skuzzy over in the "hints and tips" in the Tech Support forum.

I run ESET Smart Security on any game and do not even have to enable Gaming Mode.

Same here, even since before ESET smart security even had the gaming mode feature.....
Never have run into or had any problems using ESET since before ESET SS3 version

I've been using MSE for the past 4 years with no problems. Very light weight.
As to OP's question, I would try it with it on and with it off. Note any performance boost or loss.
Good luck.

You usually get viruses only from downloading illegal software or browsing the net with an unprotected browser such as IE. Use Noscript and adblock with FF or Chrome and your chances of getting infected reduce considerably.
You don't usually surf the net while playing I guess?

I've never used an AV or firewall when running AH. I've not had an issue to date. Not a recommendation , just my own personal experience .
-
ESET is the least intrusive into games. AVG, on the other hand, has been a pain in the tush for us. False positives and loss of data happens quite often.
-
I ran with it off last night, seemed better. I never used an AV or a Firewall either for years and then the virus happened. I don't even know how since I don't surf the web on that computer and never ever download illegal software or go to porn sites.
After playing last night I turned AVG back on, ran a scan, and it found nothing.

If another computer on your local network gets a worm it will infect your other machines too if they're not protected. Also if you are not running firewalled or behind NAT you may get all sorts of attacks directly from the internet.

I leave Mcaffe on when i play, the only issue i have is if it starts a scan.
during a scan my frame rates will drop to nothing.
so i just alt tab out and cancel the scan.
and keep playing at 40-60 fps.

Same here. ESET has such a small resource footprint and isn't intrusive at all that you really don't need to put it into "gaming mode" when playing.

Yes. Just remember to turn it back on. NOD32 has a gamer mode that automatically puts it in standby as soon as the game starts

I've tried it (ESET NOD32) both in gamer mode and shut off outright. And honestly I haven't noticed a bit of difference performance wise. Not that it doesn't exist. Just that if it does intrude. Its by so little its not noticed.
The only thing is remember to have your updates and scans set to times you're currently not playing. That the only time I ever noticed any interference.

Gamer mode comes in handy because its automatic. Dot have to remember to turn it off. And dont have to remember to turn it back on again.

But we're both saying that gamer mode is not even needed. Ack, myself and others leave it running full and because of its small footprint, doesn't affect any game we play. So there is nothing to turn on or off.

I understand that.
I like having an even smaller footprint ;)

I got Kasperky, ma father has AVG :
AVG isnt expensive( ;)), but Kasperky has far less impact in terms of gaming performances...
If u can, use Kaspersky for a try, just to test :
u might be surprised

Kaspersky has been previously one of the heaviest AVs in the market.

I have been using webroot for 2 years without any problem, frugal with resources too, I manually scan now and then

I have a lot of false-positive reports for both AVG and Kaspersky. I would not recommend either for a gaming system.
AVG is notorious for interaction problems with online games.
