Title: SweetFX Will Not Load on New Computer
Post by: JimmyD3 on May 31, 2015, 09:46:51 PM
Finally got my new computer up and running. Tried to load SweetFX onto the new install but when I do AH will not start.

Intel i7 4.0 Ghz, 16 G ram, Asus GTX980 video card. Any Ideas, would REALLY like to get SweetFX up and running as it makes such a difference.

This is a problem most likely related to sweetfx itself but is it for sure that you've installed all the drivers, particularly the Nvidia graphics driver?

Yeah I went to the Nvidia web site to confirm the latest drivers, also went and downloaded the latest DirectX9 release.

Do you have the Geforce Experience program installed?  If you do, try uninstalling it and then running AH with SweetFX and see if that corrected the issue.  Sometimes new updates to Geforce Experience tanks SweetFX.

Can you get the same effects using graphics cards settings?

Seems odd that sweetfx is needed to get better colours from a graphics card.

SweetFX enhances the graphics or at least it did on my old machine, I'm running a new one now with a Geforce GTX 980. That might eliminate the need for SweetFX.

You should NOT need that program with your new system.

If you want to improve the vanilla graphics you do.  You can have a beefy system like Kenai77's and run AH with the vanilla graphics turned up to the max, it still won't look as good as someone running SweetFX.

Here is  a link to a screenshot showing the difference between vanilla AH graphics and my first SweetFX template that I made for AH.

Here is a short video I made showing another template I made to give the game that 1940's era "technicolor" movie look, like the movie Fighter Squadron.  In the video, all the graphic options in game are at the max, with the exception of shadows (don't like the look of AH shadows, though SweetFX does improve them) and AA is done through SweetFX.  In the video you'll see direct comparisons between SweetFX enabled and disabled (vanilla graphics).

Since the new update will be using shaders (Shader 3.0 IIRC), SweetFX will really improve the look of AH more than it does now with the current version.
