Post by: shermanjr on June 01, 2015, 10:13:32 AM
well got the ol 71 el camino moving Saturday tranny was blown so got one out a junkyard and last night engine overheated (may or may not of been beating the piss out of it) . and ended up having the engine quit on me so let it cool off and checkin the coolant bone dry cap was messed up was pissing out the overflow so refilled it and waited couple hours and seemed like only a ouple cylinders had compression so heres to the process of replaceing all the gaskets i can or getting a big block for her

Might consider replacing the check-engine lightbulb since it must have been burned out for you to not have noticed it illuminated when the motor ran out of coolant...?  Or maybe add a rudimentary gauge pod with some temperature gauges.  A $100 set of gauges and an hour running wires could save you some trouble the next time you drive it around with an empty radiator until it seizes...

why not get a 350 or better yet a 383 which is a stroked 350 with a 400 crank otherwise with a bigblock youll have to change out a bunch of brackets and crap 383 makes a bunch of torque i tell you what :D
