Title: Help With Squadron Logo
Post by: Oddball-CAF on June 10, 2015, 01:09:44 AM
Hi guys, first off, apologies if I'm puttin' this request in the wrong forum area, but I figured all the hardcore graphic
artists would be hangin' around here.   :D
I'm trying to make a squadron logo and when it shows up in-game, it's got some weird looking stuff that I believe
is in something called an "alpha channel". Here's a screenshot of what I'm seeing:

As you can see, in the top right corner, there's a "chunk" of yellow showing, and also, zoomed in you can see a LOT
of nasty looking yellow "jaggies" around the circle.
Can somebody PM me if you can fix it for me?

Best regards, Odd

<S>

Paint the default at top-right in white, also paint white the little points around the circle to erase them.
(White is voïd once it appears ingame). :)

You can do this in 3 min using the basic "Paint" program included with *Windows.

Hi Interceptor,
Thanks for the help. But, I'm unable to see that stuff to paint it white or erase it within
my graphics editor. They don't show up in there.

Update: Okay, so though I couldn't actually -see- the yellow chunk or the "jaggies" in the
graphic, I did paint all the corners white, saving it as an 8bit/256 color .bmp.
What happens then within the game is that the entire rectangular graphic shows
up, not just the circular part, and the four corners of the rectangle are showing
as white; not transparent.

Regards, Odd

Well, thats weird, but i think thats maybe because u dont use "Paint" software (it works fine for me, no reason if u save it as bmp.256 that it doesnt work for u otherwize)

Second option, use same grey than others squads  logo (exemple below) : HTC says this grey is rendering as void, but i found out that Paint's white also rendered as void, so i used white...

I believe this is incorrect...."white" is not void(transparent) ingame.

the proper color to use for transparency is 176,176,176....which is a grey color.....

Ink, i know the htc official color for void is that Grey, but, as i wrote earlier, i used Paint's white on some logos i made as a test, i created 1-player squad and inserted the logos i made in "squads" folder, uploaded them in o'club, and they showed perfectly. So i garantee it works. 😌

Oddball, post the original nose art pic, before it's shrunk down to 64x64 & I'll see if I can fix you up right.

INK,

I've imported gunsights I created in paint.net into Photoshop and the white and black HEX values detected by PS are not what I picked in paint.net. There was often a single digit value difference.

Hi guys,
I never did get only the circle to show with the outer part being transparent using
pure white.
But the end product looks decent and I'm happy with it. :)

Best regards to you all,

Communicating graphics information can become confusing quickly. At least in this forum everyone is focused on accomplishing something. I do not want to hinder that. Now in those other forums, we is a bunch of window lickkkkeerrrssssss and banjo fleecers.

This POST helped me to ask Waffle a question because I didn't know about the color values the game sees as "null".

Thank you all. It will be nice to see the results of your help for the OP.

  Hi guys,
First off, we can close this thread. The problem is solved.
Special thanks to -Ink- for his specific input; 176/176/176 as the color rendered "invisible"
to AH.
That is indeed the one to use. :)

Best Regards, and "thanks Ink!"
