Title: Aerial bombs
Post by: bangsbox on June 10, 2015, 03:44:32 PM
I would love to see aerial/air2air bombs add with the new update. It would definitely add some stand off buff killing power to the Japanese plane set and German. I also would love to see the r4m rockets added to the game for the appropriate planes (190, 262, 163) and the current air2air rocket added to the 262.

Aerial bombing was used in 1943, I believe it was a 250kg time delayed bomb. Obviously dive bombing a "formation" is harder then it sounds; the idea really was to break up the formations.

Not sure how wide spread it was; I tried to do some research on it but really couldn't find anything more then a field modification. Far as I know it was only Fw-190s that used them, the drag was considerable - the bomb shackle would be stuck on the aircraft making it ultimately useless as a dogfighter even after the bomb was dropped.

Bf109's also attempted bombing attacks, as documented in Heinz Knocke's "I Flew for the Fuhrer"

He had a lucky 1st  drop. The the tactic was dropped because the difficulty in aiming made them very vulnerable to the escorts.

Indeed. The tactic as a whole was not very effective, regardless of airframe.
