Just saw that he died on Sunday. Excellent Dracula, and was perfect as Saruman in Lord of the Rings.

Volunteered for service in Finland during the Winter War. Became an RAF intelligence officer after a medical condition prohibited him from flying. Served in North Africa, Sicily and Europe. Hunted down war criminals in the last months of the war. Did a stint in the SAS that he was never allowed to discuss. Somewhere along the line he learned what it's like to get stabbed in the back, which came in handy while filming his death scene in The Lord of the Rings.
