The radar is equipped on the plane.

so where you fly you constantly have a radar ring.

it could be a perk plane with no guys like a recon aircraft... they excisted in world war 2.

The ability to take photos would be cool. send it to the tower and what not.
track enemy movements

just a thought

Night fighter radars didn't work like that. They worked in a very small cone facing forward, with a maximum range of less than 1 up to (typically) about 3 miles.

There also were no AWACS like recon planes at all.

Night vision glasses even back then.

P-38M never saw combat, having only entered operational service literally days before the war ended.

What do you hope to achieve with a radar equipped plane in AH?  Since we don't have night, you're not going to gain anything with a radar equipped plane.  You will spot the bandit with the trusty Mark 1 I-Ball than you would with the radar.

Still, this would be pretty neat to play with.

Ack-Ack,  how did the rear facing radar detection work on the P-38L?  Was it like a buzzer or light flashing?

Yes! This will be a perfect excuse to get a Mossie NF.30!

Near the end of the war, the AN/APS-13 radar was installed on all late model USAAF fighters (don't know if the USN did the same) and was a low-power pulse radar.  The pilot would be warned if something was at its six position by a flashing light and ringing bell in the cockpit.  The AN/APS-13 radar though was usually disabled by the crew because of repeated false alarms that would distract the pilot.  The radar worked by emitting a fan shaped beam and anything that flew in this cone would set off the flashing lights and ringing bells in the cockpit which resulted in a very high rate of false alarms and pretty much universally hated by pilots.

The  APG-13B radar mounted in the B25 H saw limited action in the Pacific and China in 45. It's operable range was 5100-300 yards. It was only usable over water and not land due to ground interference. Mostly it was used to attack small light shipping that a single 75mm round would sink. By this time there was a scarcity of steamers and larger ships. The 75mm round from the B25 was not found to be effective at destroying heavier vessels, and ranges to successfully attack ground positions with visual aiming left the planes vulnerable to defensive fire.

One of the few Marine units that used the NAVY version with 75mm would fly to an enemy base at 2000ft. At about 8000yds out drop to 1500ft to pick up speed. From 6000yds they would begin firing the 75mm none stop as they closed on the installation visually sighting for ack and other positions. Once over the base dropping any bombs and using their 50 cal to strafe on the way out.

In our game this would effectively be an aimbot for the 75mm because it would remove the need to guess what your range to the target was. Still if Hitech made it useless when pointing at land. The 5 inch gunners would still slaughter the B25 because dispersion from the 75mm out side of 3000 is horrible coupled with accounting for the speed of the fleet.
