That was great, the guy taking fire behind a wall and the AT4 backblast are intense. The pics of the Phantom and the Hornet flying over the Golden Gate gave me chills.
The dude throwing a salute as he jumps reminded me of one of the odder WWII stories I've heard. Some years back on Wisconsin PBS they had a series featuring stories told by WWII vets from WI. There was one where a fellow who was a pilot recounted his first kill. He shot the crap out of a 190 and for whatever reason he didn't finish the guy off, he was trailing on his low 6 when the German stepped over the side. He said as he passed by the guy stood at attention, gave him a highball salute, and then pulled his cord."

I am thinking it is his weapon, and that it (plus all that extra stuff) went flying when he fired that bazooka (do not know exact weapon he is using). They are not kidding when they say that you need to keep clear of it's rear. :) It kind of looks like part of the strap snapped, though it may just be excess. Is it possible, when wearing it, for the strap to snap on you when using a bazooka? :headscratch:

I wondered about the story with the pic too, what caught my eye is that it looks like another barrel of a weapon between the flying m4 and the person.

There are a ton of casings and parts of the belt from what looks like a .30 cal mg. So either the launcher was used in a wrong spot and just blew the crap out of a gun emplacement, or a shell exploded right as the rocket was fired

To my eye, that strap looks good. Looks like a V-Tac sling (I have one myself) and that's the excess you're seeing.

Now, I've only seen SMAWs used in person, and even then only 3, so I'm no expert, but I think that much debris is a little TOO much for just the backblast, at least with it pointed horizontally (If he'd been aiming almost straight up, I could see that) so I'm thinking your idea of the shell impact might be more likely.

It's a AT4..strap is a sling...there is a guy sitting behind him...that's where the other M4 is coming from. Judging by the fact there is concertina wire and a pickit...this is probably a COP or built up OP. He probably was chilling and they got in contact at the COP or OP. A lot of people's TTP on small arms fire in southern Afghanistan (by the amount of dust, that's what I would guess) is to fire a AT4 or something similar because they have a different psychological effect on the enemy...normally they break contact out of fear. He probably sat his weapon down in a hurry because he wanted to get that photo...and like the title, the buddy timed it well.

By the buddy's rifle, are you talking about the other barrel in the dust? That makes sense. But I cannot see backblast from AT4 sending that other M4 flying like that, but that's just my opinion.

Honestly it's the shell casings that are throwing me off...they are for a SAW (5.56)...I don't think the AT4 would blow them up like that with a backblast...the weapon may just look like it's going crazy when it's really not. Maybe a recoil less rifle hit the wall a little way down....I don't know hard to tell. I would have punch him in the nuts for not putting on his top...easy way to get burns.

Looks to me that its a lot of empty 5.56 shells, prob fired earlier and was lying on the ground. I belive the back blast was partly contained by the hole they are in.
