This is the arena with arguably the best plane set in AH (my own favorite, after AvA, is EW, but I'm old), and one of the worst reputations. Known as a haven of perk farmers, it also houses some of AH's best sticks. Like the AvA, it is what people want to make of it.
I wandered in there tonight because I'm not interested in GVs and it was Tank Night in AvA. When I entered the arena, one side had something like 11 players, another side had two, and the third had none. I picked the two-fer and headed for a red DAR bar. Within a few minutes, as the fight developed, people began to even out the sides, and there were some most excellent fights to be had. If you let people know you want to fight, you'll find takers (...or...was it that they knew they could get easy oldman kills to boost their scores...?).
Many nights you can find players like Shuffler, Black70 and Pangea in Midwar. They are the equals of any pilot in any other arena, and good people to boot. You may find it's worth living with the farmers (two unopposed bases were captured while I was there; hey, WTG dudes!) in order to have good, fair and fun fights with some of AH's most classic pilots. Highly recommended (on nights the AvA is not an option).

Anytime you are looking for a MW 1v1 fight and I am there let me know.
-
The numbers there and on the single digit range when I like to go there.
-
I log on early morn US times and its always 0 :(
AvA is my fav arena when theres numbers (low teens) always some good fights to be had. Havent been in MW in a long time I drop in if i see anyone in there next time
-
Last time i was in MW i spent my time chasing timid G3 kids around :bhead noone wanted to fight, just perk farm/roll fields.
havent been there since.
-
I just wish midwar was more midwar and less latewar.

Yes the Dawn Patrol notorious for that in mid & early war as well get within 2.5K they bail. Hit a set of Lancs with a 37mm he altf4 to avoid a 37mm soft gun?

Oldman always gives a great fight. Respectable guy.
Cobia & Lyric also... ...great defenders. And I dread when I am in the air and see an A20 and Cobia logged on. But I will always fight (knowing I will likely die).
I do take exception to the comment about "G3 kids not fighting". We do spend most of our time in LW. We have few that call MW home. The guys I know will fight. I think you are generalizing Knights as G3. That is far from accurate. The fact is, when G3 is on and firing on all cylinders, are formidable and tough to stop. This discussion has been brought up before. This is why we went to LW predominantly.
It is easy to call someone out for "running" when they have been hovering an enemy field and run low on fuel or ammo or are bleeding out and decide to try to make it home. Especially when the defender just simply ups over and over and over and over and over again. It is why I prefer to squash and shut down a field if I intend to take it. If one wants to kill me, I will do my best to make you earn it (not that it is too difficult for many sticks in the game). I have seen it too often.
Last night in MW was an experiment for me. I haven't really spent a whole lot of time there. I attempted to get everyone working together and it worked. There is general team play. It is a small enough arena that sides do stack up and work together. All countries do it. I have been on when bish and rook have had numbers. It is fun actually. There is no real rhyme or reason. The numbers seem to bounce around though I agree the Knights almost always seem to have numbers. But it does tilt in other directions also.
Since my kid will be getting an account this weekend, I will most likely be spending time in MW for a while to get him prepared for LW and FSO operations. yes... ...a new squeaker is on the way! LOL

It was over a year ago and i dont even remember who all was in there,no disrespect to you guys, but the G3 and i think maybe popped into my mind because that was the highest # squad in there at that time.
Good luck with the youngster, good times flying together for sure !!!
My wife and daughter both had an intrest for a while but sadly they both lost it.

Ill hop in there in the morning and have some fun

So I go into MW just now to see what it is like these days.....7 people on.....only sign of action was two cons taking off from a base with one of our carriers near by......so I take off from the carrier hoping to get a fight.......guy on carrier says..."you shouldn't have taken off.....now you have given away the position of our carrier.... I wanted to destroy the enemy fleet in front of us".....chose to ignore this and not make comment.....go towards one of the cons.....con bails when I get close.....other con has also gone.....
My opinion of MW.....don't waste your time there......

Spent a lot of time in MW when I first started, great bunch of people. Even got killed by Oldman on numerous occasions :D . Fought with G3 a lot, never had any problem with them running from me though, another great bunch of guys. Even had the privilege of flying with them on occasion.
MW is a great place to start out in the game, your not overwhelmed by numbers or tactics. :salute

I've had some awesome fights with Black70 in MW. He's a good stick, good guy.
-
theres never anybody on when i go in so i just run to LW :furious
-
Hey Oldman, those were good fights the other night.
I like to go for nice fights in MW, and when it's "prearranged" a little, I like to pick a plane that will match the opponent. I'm there to have fun trying a palm sweating kinda fight. No need to bring a Spit9 at 10k to fight a low 110. Oldman and I tried out C202 vs Ki61. Was fun and I think that's the way it's suppose to be. Win or lose. :)
Been playing in Mid since I started playing and #'s went around the 3 sides. For the last year or so it's been the Knits. Thing is, the regulars who play in there don't really care about the numbers. We just like to play together.

Black70 is a good guy and more than willing to share his skills and knowledge.
-
Agreed.

The place is a joke. Closed to within 3k of a bomber and he bailed, then he puts on 200, "Everyone bails here". I'm about to just land my 110 when the same guy comes on and says hurry, "I'm going to hit the ammo strats" so I turn to it only to encounter him in a fighter, waiting to pounce. Yeah, right. I just turned back to my own base and landed, then logged.
I have exactly one experience there and that's it. You won't see me returning. Ever.
-
Yeah that great idea, basing something on one experience.

This is more the norm in MW, or 1 side rolling map after map, its nothing but a perk farm fest

What I don't understand about the MW arena is that most of the people in there are seem to be doing there best to avoid any kind of a fight. They are paying $15/month to do what the could do offline for free......I just don't get it..... :old:
-
Best part about Midwar arena is finding a whole squad to shoot down and harass hehehe.
Ohh and also the amount of perkies that come with it.
2 sorties of 5 kills ended up in 100 perkies!!! It was great success.

I can tell you are using the wrong plane. Try a P-38. The fight comes to you.

I was in MW just the other day, lots of fights going on. Had a (nameless) LW flyer in there trying to perk farm in a gv, no problem. But he sure got upset when I found him and bombed his hind end. From my experience if you want to perk farm in MW go ahead, but don't whine and make a fool of yourself when someone defends. And please!!!! no rage text.
If you don't like MW or your to good for it, fine stay out, but leave it alone. Its a great place for newbies to start out. And if for sure doesn't need any of the LW elite in there to ruin it.
-
everyone needs somewhere to start, whether its the AVA, the FSO, the training arena, midwar, latewar etc etc. zoney's comment is quite interesting in the fact that when I first starting playing this game, I went into the latewar where all the planes were and got clobbered as soon as I upped a plane. I couldn't figure it out, so I quit playing for several months.
then I tried it again, and luckily ran into someone(Tbarone and storch) that was willing to teach me how to fly and play the game... that was 2008.... I'm still here today, but for that reason. so a new guy goes into the latewar and gets hammered leaves and never comes back based on his one or 2 or few experiences. that's a problem.
now the midwar has lesser numbers with guys willing to help others including new guys. they are better sticks cause they have better fights.
its not always about ho-ing or bomb and bail or anything else... although that too happens in the Midwar.
the point is the Midwar is a great place to start, and its a great place to fly. its not always what you want but, its like New England weather, wait awhile... it will change.
one bad experience today will not necessarily happen tomorrow. on the flip side of that, one great fight today, will not necessarily repeat itself tomorrow either.
every day is a new day. give things a try, try the midwar its not perfect but its fun... just like all the rest of the arena's. they're not perfect, but they're fun.

I was in there yesterday morning. fly as a bishlamist and winged up with dragon40 for a couple runs. It wasnt too bad and there was some fun. m8 vs M4 in town and got owned reverse needs to be a little faster in the M8 lol
Took up a Ki43 and found lancs :bhead dumped 100 rounds in the lead and broke off due to damage dragon finished him off and i got .97 perks for the one kill. so it wasnt farming in my case but the hunt was kind of fun. and i like the plane set.
I cant say it beats the AvA plane set but it there tends to be a few more people in there.

Duly noted. Someone logging in to play in a manner which promotes combat should just stay away because you don't need them.
-
I have had squads yell at me for doing the 'combat' with them while they are trying to practice base takes. I guess the etiquette is to talk on the all channel first? Like in the DA used to be. I do go in there to 'perkie farm' and part of that is to do the combat with other players. Up some Betty bombers drop on some towns shoot down a Spit IX get 40 perkies. Repeat, then fly a B29 in the MA like a jackwagon :neener:

I really do believe it is a perception sort of a thing.
Short of the few who bail out of bombers to protect their score (and people do in fact do it), the side balancing simply is all over the place.
I have logged on to see heavy sides for all countries. The majority of the time the Knights seem to have the numbers.
Back in 2008 timeframe, it was primarily Rooks with the numbers.
I have noticed Bish with heavy numbers.
Again, no real rhyme or reason. It just happens.
You do end up with great fights. Not really having to worry about people trying to clear your 12 though it does happen occasionally.
MW is primarily a base taking arena (as are the other MAs). But when you have smaller numbers and one side is heavy, the heavy side is usually working together.
I prefer the plane sets in MW over the LW. I am allergic to some of the faster cannon planes! (yikes)
It is the perfect place to train new players as there is just enough action to keep them interested. You put them on the heavy side and get them involved in team play and taking bases. It feeds the addiction and in time, they develop and move into LW.
I do enjoy LW though. I just don't like being in EW planes trying to fight a pair or more N1Ks, etc... But that is what LW is for.
One could point out that even in LW, the sides SEEM imbalanced when in fact they aren't really. But I log on and count the total number of flashing bases then realize that about 16 of those bases are my bases and there is usually a small skirmish between the other two countries. We always seem to be fighting both sides way harder than they are fighting each other. Again, it is a perception but is what I see...
And regarding MW. I would love to see more peeps coming in there.
-

Anyone bailing out of bombers to 'protect' his score has not the slightest idea how score works and is actually harming it.
-
Jaeger, midwar was a different beast back then with a Higher player count. Also it didn't hurt that people fought back then. I started about a year before you did in Midwar and have fond memories of those times. Not so much of Storch's mouth though. But I would put up with him if it brought the numbers of players back up to what they were then.
-
I tried flying MWar during 2006-2008; numbers seemed decent in prime time; unfortunately it was mostly base takers I dealt with during the day time; the only thing good about it now was watching 6 bish, 1 rook and nobody a knight - switch sides and gain some perks.
-
Midwar still has the best balanced planeset and there was a time when midwar had the best fights ... but it turned into a "milking" barn. That's when I lost interest and haven't gotten it back since.

Yep, same reason I stopped playing regularly in the MW arena.

After reading some of your guys responses and as a new guy to AH,I will be flying in MW for some practice, look forward to seeing you guys in the sky <S>
