I like the Brit-style stick! Admirable ingenuity.
How does it do?
A video of this beast in action would be great.

Can we see a not so close up of the entire setup. It looks cool but hard to picture the whole setup. :salute

Exactly! Although I admire photographers who can make a mundane item look fascinating by showing details from unusual angles and that kind of approach works very well in travel advertising, I think you've shown your photographic skills and teased us enough. Show us the big picture!

This is the hard build of my experimental rig that I had been slowly tweaking for years. whereas its not to actual spec in dimensions, its dam close because of the nature of how it works with the body in an enclosed space. All pivot points(knuckles) fit my body. Its now rock solid vs being soft and wishy washy like the tryout rig. makes stick stirring impossible, my pots have zero jitter now.
If I only had that innate ability to fly................
Spitfire control column
P-51 peddle configuration
DIY throttle idea. has the basic throttle movement but the buttons add a puter interface.
Yes as title hints, I use this in game. The stick does not make the pilot! The pilot made the stick. he he

Nice! :salute
As my wife said seeing only the last picture: What's that? A pedal powered harmonium?

I like it! Great job! :aok

These final shots will put a sense of scale to the rig, me in chair.

Does that feel awkward, having the pivot points so far apart on the stick?
Maybe they are like that in r/l.

Look in a Spitfire cockpit.

I built it wanting to understand this configuration myself. I built a gimbal style as well, retired it fast. Now I would never go back, the spit stick is actually better at orienting you to which part of plane you are actuating. The peddle design I use was not meant for the spit control column but the foot movement is very similar so....................
I'm not a real pilot, zero flying experience except FA and AH, so zero actual knowledge. But I grew up in USAF so I like planes...........

Anyone with a little American ingenuity can do this. Scavenge what you can, buy what you must. If I had had a shop... I had my bathroom and bedroom. Good thing I'm not married, the ex would have dropped a kid.......................... .he he

Wow, truly impressive considering the materials and obvious ingenious use of scavenged/spare type parts. Right click - view image for those zoomed in/larger shots. Very very cool.

Being a lifetime builder/installer of stuff, it did help that I did not have to buy tools. Tools being the most expensive part. hardware 2nd materials 3rd.
All the different construction materials were scavenged tho. the ring, the wood, pvc, some wiring. Hardest part was soldering leads to the brain module. its only 1"x1" I did not really have the micro tools but......................now leo bodner has something easier, I will prolly upgrade.

I always thought a gimbal style control would be more effective at the fine motor control necessary for some of the fights in Aces High. Instead of moving the stick 3 inches for full deflection with normal joysticks, having the gimbal on the floor allows for greater movement and decreased sensitivity.
Did you put the gimbal on the floor or on the control column?

floor, but it was not a true gymbal. I just made it actuate the pots all at floor level, the movement was the same as a gymbal.
I would get lost easier. Duh no why? With what I know now I could do up a gymbel style ez with pvc but I like the spit control column better.
Actually some might have a problem with the greater movement, especially after using a jet/desktop style stick. You cannot compare the movement with a jet stick vs any ww2 aircraft, the body movement is entirely different. Just flicking the wrist around does not begin to capture the experience.
I went for full scale because I wanted greater movement to help dampen my knee jerk reaction flying. Either style stick helped with that. Its like sitting a drum kit now. I perch on the edge of my seat and use all 4 limbs at once.
