Title: Where to get rid of old sports cards?
Post by: USRanger on June 20, 2015, 11:38:17 AM
My buddy has a bunch of old sports cards (in mint condition, in hard plastic cases) of guys like Magic Johnson, Dennis Rodman, Dan Marino, Michael Jordan's baseball card, all while they were still playing. Just looking at the back of a few of the cards, they are almost 30 years old and still mint.  Does anyone know a site or something where we can find out their worth and possibly get rid of them?  He's put it on me to find out.  He & I are both combat vets with "problems" where we can't do the convention thing (hellll no being around that many people) and I've never been on E-bay, much less sold anything.

Anybody with experience with this stuff know where I could at least find out what they are worth.  He really wants to get rid of em.  Thanks!

Ranger,  you don't need to know anything about Ebay. Their Valets will sell it for you. All your friend has to do is visit the link below.

He packs up his stuff, sends it in (post paid by Ebay), or if there's an Ebay drop-off nearby, just bring it there.

It works like this:

Here's the page link.... He'll need to create an account (easy and free).

You could try looking for price guides at the local bookstore.  I don't think they sell Becketts anymore but there might be something.  Most of the stuff from the 80s and early 90s was barely worth the cardboard it was printed on last I checked.  The exception being certain rookie and error cards.  If he only has a small collection of more notable players you can try just looking the cards up on ebay to get an idea.  If he's got boxes to go through then look in the guides at what is worthwhile then dig through and see if he has them.  You could take them in to a local card shop, but they don't make money by buying high.

I am in this same boat. After my dad found out what his collection of baseball cards was worth years after he tossed them in the dumpster he went crazy buying sets of cards for me in hopes they would be worth a lot of money down the road. However times are not like they used to be and I have boxes upon boxes of complete sets of cards from the late 80s early 90s. Now that my dad is passed I am having a hard time letting them go but they are just collecting dust in my garage and taking up valuable real estate. I may try a bulk sale on craigslist.  :headscratch:
