.... in the Combat Theatre of course! The group in there last night was a class act. Great flying, historic planeset, and friendly atmosphere (minus the machine gun fire ;)). We're talking multi-bogey fights, P-47's, 109's and 190's, flying as teams. Every fight ended with a <S>.
Perhaps a song(?!) could descirbe the way I feel about the CT:
Making your way in the world today
takes everything you've got
taking a break from all your worries
sure would help a lot
wouldn't you like to get away....
...where everybody knows your name.... :D
OK! OK!... just fly in the combat theater!
Salute CT pilots :)

Nah, I'd have to say Fatty's mom's house is a lot more fun.

With only 1-2 dozen planes up...sounds a little boring to me.

Wandered into the Combat Arena a few evenings ago, saw 3 people in there and opted to go for the ruthless combat of the Main Arena, where 230 other players were :D

to each his own, bro. :) I'd rather do anything in the CT than fly in the MA. Just wish a few more people felt that way. Tell ya what, gimme 30 and you keep 200, and we'll all be happy. :) *wishful thinking*

1 to 2 dozen? I have never seen more than 3 (counting myself). Too damn exciting for me.

This is kinda funny, and certainly a case of Deja vu.
In Warbirds, they had the "historic arena". A dozen or so guys liked it, and constantly implored others to play in there with them.
But, the masses didnt really care for it, and avoided it. Still, over and over the faithful tried to get more players to join them, and always the overwhelming majority stayed in the MA.
I tried it, I didnt like it. Dont think I will be trying the CA. Best of luck to you guys that play it.

I agree with Iculus. It's a nice breath of fresh air. If you get bored with the Main Arena, then definitely give the CT a try. It's not perfect, but the historical matchups can be rather entertaining. And the reduced icons and radar means SA is at a premium.
Also, do people realize what a silly excuse it is to say "I don't fly in there because nobody is in there."? It's a self-fulfilling prophecy. If everybody has that attitude, then of course there will be nobody in there. I guess it's easy to just go along with the herd though. Moo Moo! Enjoy your McArena. :)
Actually I fly in the Main Arena too. Sometimes I want to fly a plane that's not in the CT. Or I just want a quick furball. I'm just glad we have more than one choice now. :)

PS Dago I don't think a historical setup will ever attract as many guys as a free-for-all arena. There's simply not that many guys who are interested in the historical side of things. Most guys don't really care about Axis and Allies or which planes fought when in which part of the world. They either don't know the history or it just doesn't matter to them. Neither fact surprises me considering the state of our culture. They just want a good quick fight with whatever plane they feel like flying. They don't care if they are flying over the Reich or a uterus or a giant beer. :)
And there's nothing wrong with that. It's a computer game, and we should each do whatever entertains us most. Enjoy!

"Also, do people realize what a silly excuse it is to say "I don't fly in there because nobody is in there."? It's a self-fulfilling prophecy."
Funked,
I've nothing against the CT.
However, I don't necessarily agree with this statement. On the surface it seems to be irrefutable, but....
Obviously, there's other reasons why people don't fly there. It's not just that it's usually empty or nearly so. After all, every arena is empty when it first opens on day one.
Some fill up and some don't.
I'm afraid we may have to face the fact that people find more of what they are looking for in an arena that fills up.
I doubt there's many who aren't aware of the existence of the CT and basically what it offers. Given this, a choice is made everytime a player logs in. The choice is where he will play. Generally, a player likely chooses the place he likes best or expects to have the most enjoyable time.
Proselytizing is fine but let's not delude ourselves.
To date, it appears that only a minority.. and a rather small one at that... are interested in what the current CT offers. Nothing wrong with that at all; I'm a prime proponent of playing the way YOU like to play.
-
My statement IS irrefutable. However it is, as both of our posts point out, not the only reason for low numbers in the CT.
About "Day One"... When the Main Arena opened on Day One it _was_ the only show in town. If they started calling the Combat Theatre the Main Arena, and called the Main Arena the Carbombing Vulchfest, I am certain you would see some changes in the numbers. :)
-
I doubt it. :)
The two arenas offer clear differences in the experience.
While it has been just a relatively short period of time, it's looking like the "voters have spoken".
There are more people looking for a "Carbombing Vultchfest" than a "I Flew For der Fuehrer" pseudo-realism extravaganza. Name them what you will, the buyer will seek out his desired product.
:)
Doesn't mean the CT is dead; just means this incarnation isn't outselling the old Vultchfest.
Again, I encourage all to play what they like to play, fly what they want to fly and have as much fun as possible doing it!

I think that's what I said! Read my second post, I think I posted it while you were typing yours.
And in my last post, I didn't mean to say that most users would prefer "C.V." to "I.F.F.D.F", but that the numbers in each arena can be greatly affected by names and the listing order on the login screen.
If the impression were given that the CT was the "Big Show" and the MA was the kiddie-pool for the Mom's-credit-card set, I'm sure things would change. I don't think it would be good for business, but certainly things would change. :)

"...Neither fact surprises me considering the state of our culture. They just want a good quick fight with whatever plane they feel like flying. They don't care if they are flying over the Reich or a uterus or a giant beer...".
Hilarious. Now it's a question of taste and culture? You're a "loser" if you fly in the MA. You're among the "elite" if you fly in the CT. Sheesh.
You "let's pretend we're real WWII fighter aces" guys crack me up. :)

I said no such thing. Can you read?
-
Funked, you're just a loser period. I'm have no idea what this MA, CT stuff is, since there were a lot of words and it would take too long for me to read them all, but I stand by my statement. :p

"...I said no such thing. Can you read?..."
To any objective reader, the elitism and snobbishness practically drips from your posts on this topic. No need to read between the lines.
Try rereading your posts on this subject objectively. If you know how to read.

well... they may not be "elite" or the "best bunch of guys" or the best sticks in fact, they undoubtably are not but..... they indisputibly have the best imaginations in AH.... they can turn the most boring game of hide and seek with 3-10 guys up into a "excitement packed evening... seat of the pants tension... sweat filled historic engagements"... they outta be in advertising not flight sims.

Whatever Bowser. The fact is that I said nothing like the things you quoted me as saying - "elite" and "loser". I'm sorry if I seem elite or snobby to you. Any inference of those qualities is entirely due to your own subjective bias in reading my posts. Forgive me if I feel that ignorance and apathy are not virtues. If you feel that any part of my statements are untrue, then why don't you address those statements directly, instead of misquoting me and making personal remarks?

Personally I find the Combat Theater to have no less than 30-60 people in there most times I make the drop into fly in there. I fly the MA but rarely now.
Typically if you see a decent number of people making an appearance into an arena you or someone else will at least take a look to see if you know the ones there. If so then you might just decide to fly a bit then before you know it there are several other people doing the same.
Is the CT for everyone? No but neither is the MA for everyone and diversity is the name of the game now.

Blah blah, blar blar, oh he said/ she said... I'm so insulted.... be in advertising ... I can't believe you have fun in there ... your IQ is like a 6 or less, cause you can't have fun playing AH.
Come on guys... you're all trying to read between the lines when there's nothing there. I think you're under to much stress... maybe you've spent to much time in the MA! :p
