Title: can someone post the accepted skins?

I was short on time to finish and submit a few 109s and P-40 skins, and didn't have time to make preview posts. I'll make some screenies soon.

Of course that doesn't answer the B-26 issue.

Is there a different 49th FG 7th FS skin for the P40N? I dont like the white. Many of the 7th FS's P40Ns were ODgreen with a white tail, blue prop hub (light blue, where the yellow is on the current white P40N skin). I know absolutly nothing when it comes to skinning or any fancy program stuff like that. lol If there isnt one in the new skins could you maybe make one? and another wish that I would <3 you for ever for would be a 49th FG skin on the 38J (most of the squadrons kills in the P-38 were in the J yet no skin for it :((((((((((( pweaty pweeeeeeeeeeeeease

I did post the skins,  along with images, but Firefox does not seem to want to scale the images sizes (all the other browsers, including IE and Pale Moon do) so I yanked the page.

In the future, I am think about making it a requirement to upload pictures of the skinn at submission time.  It has always been optional, but no one has ever sent any images in.  It's been the primary reason we have not reworked the skins download page and why we have not posted news about skin batches.

If you are not using Firefox, here is the link to the page we took down.

We just do not have time to create all the thumbnails, along with creating all the images.

...but no one has ever sent any images in...

Just FYI, I know I included images for the last batch of skins I submitted.  It was the first time I used the skin submission page and I thought the ability to include screenshots was a nice feature of the submission process.   If you have never received any images, perhaps there is a submission page bug?

I have included images with every skin I have submitted since the option to do so was first introduced.

If the submissions page let me do so I'd update my older skins and add images for those too.

I've included thumbnails and fullsize images of every skin I've submitted since the submission page was reworked.

I've actually stopped including screen shots with my skin submission. This is for many reasons, one that has finally being remedied according to Skuzzy.

1. They weren't being used. (again, seems to be finally coming)
2. It's two more files per skin to make, and ensure meets the required name, size, and file type. (not too hard, just more menial work per skin. which when considering the next two reasons makes the entire process easier for me, especially when I use a far larger size of preview image when I post a preview thread on the BBS. so in effect, I have 3 versions of the same screen shot.)
3. if there is a single mistake with a single file, I must resubmit the skin by uploading every file again after correcting the single flaw on my end. (it would be nice to be able to make adjust the single file that's holding up the process, instead of starting from scratch on the submission page.)
4. The submission page has a ridiculously short window to upload all the files before the page times out (under 5 min). I have to prepare all the skin info for the text box or else I risk taking too much time typing it fresh and having to start from scratch due to timing out.

Seriously Skuzzy, as far as all of us skinners are concerned, I think we'd rather you focus on giving us the ability to update the existing skins over providing preview screenshots and thumbnails for new ones.

I hope the hangar in the new version allows for a better viewing angle for the aircraft and the ability to move the camera to view the skins. Picture preview on the website is small potatoes, compared to having an easier time seeing skins in the hangar.

^^^^ This.

We know you're up to your armpits, but the ability to update would be useful and a boon to the game.

I think the skin screenshots are going to be a more of a boon for players downloading the skins rather than the skinners themselves. Not everyone wants to download every skin onto their PC's HDD. Having said that it will be nice to have another shop window for displaying our work.

I agree about the hangar view, better viewing options please. IIRC the current game also doesn't apply the spec and bump map effects to skins in the hangar which can leave some skins looking odd.

I just checked on the submissions page and I've uploaded 148 skins for 63 different rides since the page went live in July 2012, so all of those skins should have thumbnail and fullsize images included.

The only time out issue I get with the page is when I forget to check the time and it resets at the top of each hour.

Well then I have a problem as I am not showing any optional images at all, submitted with any skins.

I guess I should have asked before.  Not sure why they are getting lost.

I'll work on it and figure out how these images can be uploaded again.
Title: Re: can someone post the accepted skins?

Step one complete:  The optional images will now actually install with the submission.

Next step:  Create an updater to allow those images to be submitted with all existing skins.
Title: Re: can someone post the accepted skins?
Post by: Skuzzy on July 07, 2015, 03:30:24 PM
Step two is complete.

You should not be able to submit skin updates for the optional images only.

I will have to integrate those optional images, so they will show up separately in your skin admin tool.  Once you submit for any given skin, you cannot update again, until the updates are absorbed into the system.

It's a start toward being able to fully update your skins.

Let me know if you run into errors.

It may be me being dense but I can't see any way of adding the image files for a skin on the submissions page. I was expecting to click on a link for a specific skin and there would be an "edit image files" button or something. Can you run through what we do?

At the main page is a "Minor Skin Update Option",.....

unless I accidentally made it where only Admins can see it.  Quite possible, now that I think about it as that is how I would have developed it first.  If that is the case, then I will have that corrected minutes after I get into the office.

Make sure you refresh your page so you are not getting it from the browser cache.

All I'm seeing is "submit a new skin" so I guess it is still setup for admin only. I tried refresh and a different browser.

I did exactly what I thought I did.  Forgot to add permissions so everyone could access it.  It should show up now.  Sorry about that.

I plan on another update today, so if you run into any problems, please hit me with them.

Thank you.

The option link is working now but I've run into a snag. I tried uploading the thumbnail.jpg and fullsize.jpg image files for a skin but it wants thumbnailimg.jpg and fullsizeimg.jpg.

Right, I had to change the names is order for the parser to be a happy camper.  That is what the problem was before.  In order to simplify things, I had to use the same array name as the filename.  Due to other like variables being used, I could not switch to the shorter name without messing with a bunch of code used for the rest of the submission.

OK, I changed the names of the files but have hit another snag. It accepted the thumbnail but not the fullsize. It wants an image of 1280 x 720 pixels rather than the 1600 x 900 the original submissions page asked for. Is this a bug or do you want the fullsize image to be smaller now?

That is not a bug.  Had to change the size for the mobile stuff.  The large image scaled very poorly.  It is a balancing act with all the changes the mobile stuff has introduced.

Sorry about that Greebo.  Everything went out the window when Google forced everyone to be mobile friendly or not get ranked.

Its not a problem for me, its easy enough to resize the images.  I just wanted to make sure it was correct before uploading a load of them.

The first images have been uploaded, you seeing them OK?

5 sets, so far.  You should be seeing a new panel showing all the skins you have updated.  They will be removed from the "released" panel, even though they are still in the game.

On to the next update.

Nest step is completed.

You can now do a complete update to your skin submissions.

Next step is a bit more involved.  Adopting orphan skins.  I should probably start a discussion about the rules on that one.

I'd like to make a couple of suggestions:

When some files have been successfully updated the page gives links to either the skin submission page or the log-in page. It would save some time with multiple update submissions if there was a link to the skins update page as well.

While we can update all the files for a skin now there is no way of adding or editing the history text as you can with a new submission.

Are you talking about the link from the "Updated" panel, which currently points at the released skin?

If that is the case, that is a bit of the problem.  The "updated" information is not really there.  In order to make this work, the utility creates a pseudo submission which has no link to anything in the system (not even in the database) as I have to manually create a lot of things in order for a skin update to really happen.

Basically, it has to do with what happens in the background, which is rather extensive to update a skin in the game.

While we can update all the files for a skin now there is no way of adding or editing the history text as you can with a new submission.

I can add the text information text field to the update list.  Give me a bit.  It is a little more complicated for that one.

The name of the skin will never be available for updating.

What I could do is provide the list of files, which have been submitted in the update.  That will take some time.  Let me think on it.

I mean when you get the "Congratulations! Your skin updates have been accepted!" message there are two links.

The first one takes you to the new skin's submission page, you can't get out of that without submitting a new skin so its fairly useless in this case.

The second link takes you to the log-in screen. I was thinking it would just save me a few clicks each time if there was a link to take me straight back to the skins update page. It is not a big deal, after this bulk load of existing images is uploaded I'll probably only be doing one update at a time anyway.

The name of the skin will never be available for updating.

In this case I have a problem, Skuzzy.

One of my first 109G-2 skins has a typo in its name (9./Jg52 should be 9./Jg54). I have brought this up with you a couple of times in the past when referencing the ability to update skins. Since renaming the skin can't be done, could it be possible to completely delete this skin from the lineup. I was planning on a complete update of this scheme anyway, so considering that every other bit of it will be new, I might just as well submit it as a new skin.

It really doesn't matter how, but I want the correct name with the associated skin. You have no idea how much it bugs me to see that incorrect skin name.
Title: Re: can someone post the accepted skins?
Post by: Skuzzy on July 13, 2015, 04:13:00 PM
For that type of correction, you will need to contact me about it and I can make that change.

The reason the name is not going to be allowed to be edited is to prevent people from adopting skins, and then creating an entirely different skin to replace an existing one.

Yes, adoption is coming soon too.
