Title: To European members
Post by: mthrockmor on July 05, 2015, 02:45:10 PM
Do me a favor...

American media is very dishonest. I suspect European media is about the same. The question is what interest is being served. I understand the Greeks just rejected the IMF bailout plan, which is going to hurt the Euro currency.

Without violating Rule #4 with commentary, could you post links to stories that inform as to what is going on? I strongly suspect this could be a big deal in the world markets and I really like reading different views.

When it comes to Skuzzy et al, so long as we only post links to stories without comment we should be fine. This is informational only...

And Skuzzy, if you need to block a comment with a link, please leave the link.

I'm currently following the events in Greece. The government arranged a ballot that was very vague, the people didn't know exactly what they were voting for. Many thought the vote meant dropping out of Euro but Syriza refuted that as the first thing when the 'no' vote was obvious. The whole thing is still wide open.

This is State side.  It has been the most informative US site I have found so far:

Interesting high level overview of Greek issue since end of WWII.  A little more detail would have been nice (for me) - other than that interview is a little choppy in places.

Europe will prob not suffer that much, it have been plenty of time to minimize the risks. noone is sitting with large risky investments in Greece anymore.

The Greeks will not leave the EU.

And the unelected decision makers who run the EU know it.

This charade is for those who think they know a bit about politics.

Next month it will be north korea again.

How old do you need to be to get wise to it.

The AH update is more important than a load of tax dodging work 3 hours a day plate chuckers

Thats not really true, People in Greece works at average at least as much as other European. Problem is an ineffective IRS that are incapable of doing their job along with corruption.

The Guardian ran a story noting the massive tax evasion and welfare fraud found in Greece. Of course, this doesn't speak for the entire people though it is large. In fact, they estimate upwards of $20 billion a year goes uncollected in taxes.

Former head of the Swedish IRS, he worked as advisor for the Greece IRS in 2013 and his opinion is that it had a "high level of incompetence, corruption and lack of political will to do any real changes to the agency".

His conclusion is that it doesnt matter what they do since the responsible agency is incapable of conducting it.

That's my take on it as well Zimme. It doesn't matter much what the Greek politicians decide. Their entire government and bureaucracy is so corrupt and incompetent that they can't implement any major change. Greece used to pay its bills by printing money. A way of taxation that is common in chaotic, unorganized countries. They can't do that in the Eurozone since they don't control the printing press.

The election procedure reminds me of Luke 2-3 (https://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=Luke+2-3&version=ASV): The Greek had to enrol in their home location for voting. In our local paper there was this tourist trinkets seller who couldn't afford losing one day's income plus costs for traveling 400 km each way for voting. Supposedly he wasn't the only one.

So they are a bunch of tax dodgers then?

The Greeks have no intention of sorting out their economy as much as FIFI is going to sort out their charade.

How do i get in on this scam?

Zack why do you post? You would dodge taxes also if you had to work 10 hours a day for 400 euros a month while gas and living costs are equivalent to Germany.

Noone wants to pay taxes. Too few see the connection between themselves and the public institutions that are running the country and makes their lives better. Thats whay a country need a working IRS that make sure people pay their taxes so the goverment have the money they need.
Greece doenst have an effective IRS...

40 years ago they were riding donkeys and waving Communist flags.

They DON'T and have never paid taxes!

Should i not pay taxes?

The EU was set up by the IMF to make sure everyone was included in the concept you work you get paid.

If i lived in the US i would a room full of thompsons,

Ripley hates the commies but wants the Greeks to behave like commies and not pay their way.

More goats and smashed plates is the future.

And Finland more bacon and whipping each other with birch sticks.

I'm sorry to poop on your party Zack but Greece hasn't been under Communist rule. more of the opposite actually. Post war Greece saw both civil war and dictatorship (by anti communist militaries). not until 1974 could the work for democracy start.
Title: Re: To European members
Post by: PR3D4TOR on July 07, 2015, 06:22:50 AM
Greece was made a democracy by Karamanlis in 1974. Before that the country was ruled by the military junta that overthrew the British/American puppet regime that followed the Greek Civil War after WWII. Nothing is simple in Greece.

Contemplate a world where the US no longer pays for the defense of Europe against the menacing Red Bear.   We withdraw our troops, stop paying for the upkeep of our nuclear weapons there, disband our bases, etc.

What happens when Europe has to start paying for their own military defense? One thing for sure, the green energy and finger pointing about how polluting the US is goes bye bye.

Other than the UK, Europe is largely under US protection from Putin et al/etc or whatever Iranian Ayatollah&President whacko currently wants to wipe somewhere off the map.

And this had to do what with this discussion? Even if it was correct which it is not.

Is has to do with pensions,  lavish vacations for the unemployed, persistently high unemployment and acceptance of such as the norm.

I read Spanish unemployment is at least 25% for those between 18-30yrs old, some said much higher...

I'm not sure what part you're saying what I wrote is not true, but besides the UK, what European country solely supplies their own military defense? Who would (and have) they call in situations of aggression?

I've not looked it up in a while, but were not the stipulations made at Potsdam to limit any further aggrandizement, who has the nukes to enforce that?

I don't know where exactly the International agreements on Germany & Japan's lie today. But I do believe their military is still restricted in size & capability. Correct me where I'm wrong.

And yes, a lot of those "green" projects would go bankrupt and become unfunded.

Its to do with the Chinese working 12 hour days for $3.

You might laugh but Europe is going down the toilet if the Germans carry on being paid outrages wages and the Greeks doing kak all for EU handouts. :rofl

The only country doing any real work is the UK.

Its comedy gold.

Cheer Riply the Russians dont want Finland any more.

The Ukrainians are complaining that the Russians wont give them gas until they pay their bills :rofl
