Title: Yak-9T with 20mm canon?.. Which Yak
Post by: artik on July 20, 2015, 09:18:31 AM
According to Wikipedia: Yak-9T was only option of 37mm canon. Also Yak-9T differs from other versions with a 0.4m rear cockpit.

So looking into potential variants:

Yak-9 (basic) no - its cockpit isn't moved 0.4m backwards
Yak-9TK - probably (as it is as T but with options to mount different canons) - not entered produciton
Yak-9D/DD/B - no cockpit is standard not 0.4 backwards
Yak-9M - has 9T cockpit but it should carry more fuel similar to Yak-9D i.e. it should have 4 tanks - so seems to no as well.
Yak-9UT? Should have Klimov 107 like 9U and not 105 like 9T and 2 UBS and changed oil cooler to Yak-3 styles

So which variant Yak-9(?) is Yak-9T with 20mm canon?

I thought that the cockpit was moved back to make room for the gun.

Yes it was, however it was also used in other models of yak-9 not armed with 37mm canon.

While you are right that it is not entirely correct the 20 mm was included as a load out for the 9T to give the game a generic early Yak-9 variant without having to produce a whole new shape. IIRC Tilt suggested this idea on the BBS while the Yaks were being developed, although HTC may have been going to do it anyway.

It plays lip service to the Yak9m for use in scenarios.

Effectively the same performance as the Yak 9d without the need to create a new fuselage model for the short nose Yak series.
