Title: AMD Cat 15.7 WHQL Drivers
Post by: Pudgie on July 24, 2015, 09:52:02 PM
To All Radeon users,

If you haven't tried these drivers you might think about it as these drivers are a big improvement over the Cat 14.12 Omega drivers.
Currently using them w/ my XFX BE Radeon R9 290X vid card & noticed a marked performance improvement on my box.

FYI.....................

Yeah I installed these last night and did notice a fair jump in FR in the Alpha in the brief time I had to mess with it. My acid test was flying low over densely forested areas with a low sun angle that provides long shadows. Went from around 40-41 to 50 when doing low circles over the trees.

Be great if I had more time and could catch more flyers in the Alpha arenas.

My system:

i7 2600k (OC to 4.6)
16GB Corsair Vengeance
MSI R6950 2GB PE/OC Edition also overclocked a bit.
Asus P8Z68 deluxe mobo

Updated both family and my computer , no issues as of yet , went from the 14.2 omega to the 15.7 . When I logged this morning into the Alpha test I found lest stutter when low (1k)  from the trees . I use a monitoring program that allows me to transfor CPU,Gpu info to my LCD on my G13 and notice that I was only having a load of 60% on my GPU ,with a frame rate of 80 . Was it do to the new drivers , I don't know was just nice to see .

I loaded them a week or so ago to test out vsr ... performance on the 280x was improved. I have a 390 coming tomorrow so i will see how much of a difference the cards perform.

I just run the Unigine Valley benchmark both before and after installing the 15.7 drivers on my HD6970. The benchmark results got a little lower: From 688 to 685. I don't know yet how it would affect AH or the alpha, though.

Just downloaded Cat 15.7.1 drivers & installed them...............

All is looking good w/ these drivers as well....although I had to disable the vid card HDMI sound device in Windows to get my SB Z sound card back (using a Cobac HDMI 2.0 vid cable), even though I didn't install the Cat HDMI sound drivers.

This is the 1st Cat driver pack that did this. All previous driver packs Windows didn't try to set up the HDMI sound device on my Radeon in Windows w/o the driver being installed 1st.

Other than this, all went w/o a hitch.

Reason I installed it is due to the Flip Query Size (equivalent Nvidia pre-drawn CPU frames before GPU rendering setting) being reduced (reduces input lag)............

Flew around....controls seem pretty responsive & smooth.

YMMV

Hmmmm..........that's good stuff 38ruk!

It appears that having Global Foundries spit out the Hawaii refresh "Grenada" chips over TSMC may have been a good move for AMD.
I would also perceive that it runs cooler, maybe much cooler, as well compared to your 280X?

Yep .... with an overclock of 1150 core from 1040 and 1500 to 1600 on memory, It broke into the 55-58C range . My 280 with 1150 and 1580 would see 70c at times.  I'll have to log the vrm temps cause my 280 would get into the 90-94c range when pushed to it's top. I havent tested the 390 yet but i would imagine it will be much lower there too.

Got the FuryX installed......all went well w/o a hitch..............

(http://s3.postimg.org/r74xvi6xr/IMG_0057.jpg) (http://postimg.org/image/r74xvi6xr/)

Fired up w/o a hitch & loaded her up w/ Cat 15.7.1 drivers (AMD Catalyst Control Manager, Catalyst Control Center & drivers.....nothing else). Rebooted box & all is well.

First off, this thing is quiet! I have to put my ear against the box to hear the pump whine over the front case fan (only fan in box that runs at full speed....all others are PWM controlled).

Second off, my DoubleSight DS-279W 2560x1440 27" 60Hz LCD monitor is no problem for this vid card......runs very smooth w/o a hint of a stutter.

Gonna start running a battery of tests to see what she will do......................

Here's how she runs w/ AHII using AHII video settings at max settings & all ingame settings at max w/ Textures set @ 4096 & EM set @ 3/4 updates & all checkboxes checked running on Cat WHQL 15.7.1 drivers:

Here is a shot of a 390 same settings but using vsr to do 1440p . My benq 2720 will only do 1080 so. It's weird but even in my everyday 1080 mode the EM slider settings from 3/4 to full show no differences in performance , good or bad. The lowest fps i saw was 52 and i had vsync on so 100 was the top .  Performance numbers in 1080p are pretty close to the same but it felt like it stuttered more for some reason. Lowest fps were 52 highest were 128 .
