My guess is I need more video RAM. In AHII, I run at about 40% GPU load/80% of the memory, in Alpha, I run at about 80% load and 99% memory. In alpha, I am running limited fun stuff (screen shot of settings attached)
-
You're right, the video RAM (1 GB) is at the lower end for the Alpha at the current state. Set the Environment Map slider to 0. Leave "Post lighting" disabled, too. Those two are the biggest resource hogs.
As you've noticed, the Alpha is more GPU dependent than AH2. Don't hurry to get a new video card until the final release, though.
-
Don't forget the texture sizes should probably be set to minimum values, and keep AA low.
-
I've upped my GDDR5 clock to 1325Mhz and am getting 80.9Gbyte sec bandwidth with 1G ram. I have Vsynce set to Off, unless app specifies.
I'm in 1024 mode, graphics defaults except clutter off, and get 42FPS sitting on the runway in the HurriC, 36 in the B29 cockpit. In 1024 mode I never fully use the 1G, maybe 700Mbyte at most. In 2048 mode it comes close, and 4096 mode, I get a slide show at times, very low FPS and ran out of memory a few times.
If you run GPU-Z and look at the memory sensors, you have dynamic memory which is what Ctrl_I shows you using of your 1G. Then dedicated which is about 40M right off the top of how far your memory usage can expand.

Looks like this is your card.
GeForce GTX 560
RAM - 1G GDDR5
Band Width - 128.2 Gbyte sec.
My card.
Radeon HD 6770
RAM - 1G GDDR5
Band Width - 80.9 Gbyte sec.
My PC has only an E8500 Duo, so what is your video issue?
The current code is supposed to push our machines to help Hitech not us. It is not optimized for us yet.
-
No "issue" other than card is maxed out in gpu and almost all memory is being used. Game starts to studder if i add more detail.
-
I don't think your GPU is to blame for the stutter. Until they find what is causing it (I think it's a bug) I would use clutter as a screenshot option. I'm sure they'll figure it out.

I get the same studder in AHII when I have too much turned on, or lots of planes are close by (FSO bomber attacks)
I am sure they will, but I was just reporting the issue.

Which texture mode are you testing in?
1024
2048
4096
Do have CTRL_I turned on to watch how much of your 1G is in use?
2048 I stutter if there are more than 4 players flying around me over a base or town. 4096 almost eats the full 1G sitting on the runway. 1024 with the defaults and clutter disabled gives me the best response with 1G GDDR5 and 80 Gbyte band width.

I will ck texture size. Pretty sure its the default

Try 1024, it does not look much different than 2048. The first time startup of the alpha install seems to think a 1G card can run 4096 mode. Offline yes to chase drones, only a bit better with 2048 online until you get around other players.

NVIDIA GeForce GTX 750Ti 2GB GDDR5 is my card.
I can't run everything maxed out, fps 12.

See this info http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/index.php/topic,373775.0.html

As DarkHawk says, especially check the table in https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/GeForce_700_series#GeForce_700_.287xx.29_series (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/GeForce_700_series#GeForce_700_.287xx.29_series). Compare the Memory Bandwidth and Processing power of your card to the next better ones. Thanks, but that's all Greek to me, I couldn't even locate the video card in the computer. I thought it was a good card when I bought the pc.... Stinks because I just got the card about a year ago. I thought I was buying a pc that could run this stuff maxed out... Guess it was $$$ wasted.
Are they getting $700-800 for video cards, or am I reading that 2nd link wrong?
Thanks again.
-
Dwonload this, un-zip it and just run it. You will see your card and it's specs.

Fortunately you're reading the link wrong. They're advertising entire computers including the card in question, clicking the images take you to Amazon where you can see the rest of the details plus variations of the theme.
And no, it wasn't $$$ wasted, you can play the current AH2 quite well with your rig, can't you? Besides it's the mediocre cards like yours that serve the Alpha development best: HiTech already knows that with a top notch system the Alpha will run everything maxed without a hitch. Trying to get the new game fluent on a budget system is what he's after.
-
Thanks bizman, I see that now. I was also overreacting because I thought my setup would run the new version with all the features... Got to remind myself that it's alpha. I turned a few things down and now it looks better.
-
Buckshot,
Are you getting about 30-47 FPS sitting on the runway in 4096 Mode?
GTX 750 Ti
RAM 2G GDDR5
Data Paths 128bit
Band width 86.4 Gbyte sec.
-
Hi Bustr. 24: Sitting on the runway with the top three sliders in the middle and the other on 3.
It goes up to 40s when flying around, 30s on the deck.
Bad stuttering all around.
-
Stuttering might be because clutter is enabled.
Your FPS with what you are describing is about what I thought for your band width. Are you in 4096 or 2048 mode? 1024 will give you a bit more FPS. I'm wondering more if band width and type of RAM are going to be telling to a player's experience along with a Core Due 3Ghz CPU or higher into the I series.
-
Stuttering might be because clutter is enabled.
Start with the default worked for me then I cut off ground clutter and it worked better.
Try a GV too and see what you get.
-
4096 mode, which I set from the lobby screen. I'll try the lower settings tonight.

I dropped textures to 1024, FR increased, but I still got a fair bit of shuttering even though frame rates were indicating an acceptable 77... My GPU is still running near 100% all the time.
I am not complaining mind you, just sharing what I am seeing.

That's important information. As I said after your first post, your card is somewhat on the edge. The behavior is just as expected without any undesired effect of unwanted background programs.

The game in it's current form is still too much for my system with anything but what I consider to be moderate graphics. I made the mistake of turning on ground clutter about a year ago, and things were fine till I was chasing a con on the deck. FR dropped to about 4... It was hilarious.
I am looking at doing a modern build with a card that should allow me to run anything HTC can throw at me graphics wise. Not because game, but because it's time...

I'm in the same boat with you, my computer is starting to show its age. I just took another look at your DxDiag output in your first post and in my eyes it looks like your computer is a reasonably balanced mid class frankenstein. Your processor is much newer than mine but clocked way below. Your graphics card is about the same age than mine and according to some comparisons their performance levels are equal, but mine has double the RAM. It seems to run 100% most of the time.
