Before I ask on the appropriate forums:
I have a vehicle which had his engine swapped with I think an IH 345. I'm wondering how to ID the block to figure out which year parts I need to source, how to ID the trany. If anyone has a clue on how to wire the voltage regulator too, or even which model external voltage regulator it's from. :D

isnt an international a big rig?
-
Reason I say that is because the few years i worked at the lumberyard one of the trucks was an international, it was the first time i've heard of such a manufacturer... sorry I couldn't help you none

Pic 2&3 mighty be some help, I'm guessing it;s a GM alternator also, been a long time since I worked on one of those.

International made pick-ups, and even a suv back in the 60's, and early 70's. International is best known for their farm equipment hence the nickname "corn binders".

International Harvester is their full name. Their most popular road vehicle is the Scout, has quite a followship:

Anyway my M37 came with an IH345 instead of the original I6. I'm in the previous owner Frakenstein parts identification process right now :joystick:

The 345 and 392 V8s were international engines as was the 304 (not to be confused with the amc 304).
International used AMC engines and even a couple of nissan diesels over the years.
The international engine called "400" was an amc 401.
If you see one, let me know......they have steel cranks.

I drove one of those before, and yes it was in actual service as a brush truck back when I moved away in 2006. Had a governor on it set at 45mph, and getting passed on the highway with the funniest looks with the lights and siren on going to a brush fire. SO sad... :cry
Gas engine that ran rich, wouldnt start unless you had your heel on the top of the accelerator and your toe on the starter button. Half the time the starter ground while cranking. Putting it in 4wd was like trying to push a brick wall with a pinto, you had to really fight it to get it start rolling especially in dirt

:aok :rofl
I hear you Meatwad, the rear end is 5.80-something ... with a 1:1 4th gear I'm expecting 50-55MPH at 3000RPM :police:

Thank you ebfd11, I'll use it to compare. I have yet to throw my head down there and scavenge a couple of ID stamps. Hopefully some time off soon? :old:

I recall the International TV ads from the 70's "International Trucks - Anything less is just a car"

Thank you :lol ... hopefully it's not too crazy of a project ... on my list of projects :O

try using google..... delco voltage regulator year or years about and make and or model of vehicle and use google images and there u should get a ideas.
couple wires to alternator, another going to be ground, 1 to a idiot light or diode, or gauge which also will break the circuit when shutting down, another to battery or solenoid or a wirng block of somekind, another to ignition or somewhere where it can monitor the voltage used.
figure what alternator or generator you have then look for a basic diagram.
or you can get a basic gm 10 or 12si 1 wire alternator and make it simple
you can get a gm 3 wire and wire it to sense its own voltage which basically will make it a 1 wire

hope this helps

You might have missed it but the truck is a Frankenstein, nothing is original. I did google already as u mentioned butchad no luck. I scored with Ebay, looks like a 64 Impala voltage regulator.
I cant wait to see what else Devil Dog was rebuilt with :D

I've owned two '76 IH Scouts before. (one was used for spare parts as I offroaded in Montana quite a bit and broke stuff. :) )

Frenchy, I would bet you could use any mid 60's regulator on the "dog"! Does it have an alt or is it a generator?
Nice thing about those old beasts is the mix and match you can do,I think you can scavenge old GM electrics to get it up and running.
I haven seen a 345 in about 45 years, make sure the distributor is still openning and closing the points, but you knew that!!!!! :devil
:salute
