Title: A little too close to home.
Post by: Beefcake on August 26, 2015, 02:22:08 PM
As some of you know I'm a station manager for WMDV 44.1, a TV station in southern Virginia. Today a TV crew for WDBJ 7 was killed while doing a live remote in a town north of where I work.

I'm in a state of shock.

The reporter that was killed, Allison Parker, was someone I had met at local events in the past. I also worked closely with her father, Andy Parker, on a regular basis, in fact we did an interview with him yesterday. He was so proud when his daughter became a reporter.

It's going to be a long day.

We are just a little north of you.  The news stories we are seeing are heartbreaking.

My condolences to the families.

I hope that you figure out a way to make it through the day without too much pain.

Peace

I saw the video the shooter made during the attack.  This is so sad.

Such a tragedy!

I've been reading about and watched the video. Such a shame for these people, and so scary to boot. I felt really bad watching it.

All because of racism. Jesus Christ!

So sad. An ex unstable (to be polite) employee of the station was the shooter.

Another workplace violence act. I blame America's cultural society we've developed into a "It's all about MEEEE! I'm a VICTIM" mentality but at the risk of going political, I'll leave it at that.

Heart felt condolences to the parents and family of these two.

terrible news. You wouldn't think that news anchors and crew need to be in their "military zone" gear on home soil....

RIP.

A terrible crime committed by a coward. It reminds me of a terrible event I myself witnessed some years ago.

I suspect over the short and long run....there will be conversations between station GMs and NDs all over the country about measures that can or cannot be taken to better secure news journalists doing their job....with special emphasis on more dangerous assignments....but that is what makes this one so very heartbreaking....it was a simple remote...rather than some far more dangerous gang story coverage...   the entire thing just makes my heart break.

I'm not sure that their occupation put them at any higher risk in this particular situation.  The shooter could have been a former car salesman, plumber, landscaper, etc and carried out the attack in one of those work places.

When violence is seen as a solution to any problem and promoted as such, we are in serious trouble.

Better yet, ignoring the fact that so many of these recent shooters have a mental illness is a bigger problem.

And usually taking some kind of drug.

And usually taking some kind of drug.

Yep, it is common for the mentally ill to self medicate to treat their problem with disastrous results. They take something to help them sleep and something to help them wake up in the morning but it just makes the situation worse.

Can anyone think of any shooters that have been sane in the past 15 years?

Actually almost all are "sane". They are aware of what they are doing and even make intricate and complicated plans to accomplish it. What traits I have noticed in them however are rage they cant explain or understand, low self esteem, lack of empathy for others "even the feelings of others", narcissism, and seem incapable of making friends or associations. This guy is a poster child for these creeps.

And just cause they are creeps doesnt mean they are not sane.

Give me one name of a sane shooter.

Just because a crime is premeditated does not mean they are not mentally ill.

Mentally ill is not the same as insane. Im not going to argue this, since legally there is no argument and the incident being discussed shouldnt have one.

You can't argue it because without the mental illness the incidents would not of occurred.

Insane in a legal sense is a label the courts place on a patient, but you'll find the actual diagnosis on literally every shooter.

I suspect that in the vast majority of cases your point would, at least in some sense, be true.

I submit through that what is now "Insane" is the acceptance of a new normal.

Mental health is definitely the issue here.

It pisses me off that they are calling this guy some kind of "victim" when he was simply a bitter racist coward who, instead of getting help, took out his anger on innocent people who he thought were racist. The black culture needs to chill out with their violence nonsense. It's not making any of them look good, and is only causing more backlash toward their people.

Yeah man loonies like these people need to be arrested for terroristic threats. That is very scary for someone to come out to the news media with articles like this.

It's pretty Fing sad that the majority of deaths by black people are by other black people, but that nimrod is probably so arrogant he cant even interpret that. It's also sad when black people who make up 14% of the population also make up about 40% of all crime. But its the whites fault because these people can't learn how to get educated to learn how to not be a thug in society. The sadest part is that most black people are really nice and want to be a good part in society, but just like radical Islam, all it takes is a bunch of radicalist to go crazy and commit hianous murders to ruin that reputation for the good people. These types of acts by radical black people don't do any good for anyone and it makes Martin Luther King Jr very disgraced by their actions.

Can't we all just get along?  Mr. Farrakhan, I highly doubt killing 10,000 whites is going to make life any better for you... If anything the opposite
