Hello,
If I have the right name "Hammerhead" (AKA stall turn), I was wondering if you could share some of your counters for this method being used against you.
The Hammerhead move is detailed here: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Aerobatic_maneuver (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Aerobatic_maneuver)
Seems 109s exploit this the most (109k4 ad naseaum) but have seen many different planes attempt it on me.
EDIT: Same question on the Tail Slide (in the vertical). How do you tend to counter these?
Tail slide example: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VuBiMM7VGh8 (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VuBiMM7VGh8)
Thanks,

Just shoot em during their acrobatic pirouette

Keep enough speed to put your guns on them when they can't maneuver. If you do get slow pull power to avoid the prop twisting the nose. If they're looking for you to stall before they reverse fake a stall.

The second video seems to be pretty fake as I don't think any plane in the game could really do that.
But to avoid a situation like this, basically roll into them to close off the angle and then pull up into a high loop or immelman to get on top of them. Doing this move allows you to keep the alt and E over your opponent as they have most likely killed a lot of speed attempting this. Sometimes the enemy play will follow you up after the roll over and if you do a sharpe immelman then climb again you may be able to pull off a rope. The key to avoiding a shot is to roll with your ailerons onto them so they cannot get a guns solution on you, then you pull a very sharpe immelman or high loop to regain alt and E over the top of the opponent, pulling another immelman will cause them to stall in the rope, then you can come back down on top of them again.

Not sure about those, but I do know that chopping throttle with a snaproll into a flatspin followed by a nose down recovery in a Hurricane will get you hate mail and called a stick stirrer when the guy behind you augers.

Turn in the opposite direction from where their nose will be when they flip around on you.

That maneuver isn't a tail slide, this is a tail slide.

Thank you. Ive been fighting that educational battle in AH for so long I gave up :D

The counter is: Do not climb the rope.

I never taught anyone to use the ability to tail slide , as Ack ack posted, in combat, I only taught them to find the extreme limits of control over their particular airframe, somehow this reminds me of taking Greebo and showing him this many many years ago....when my F4U1 went up against his F6f5 and he wondered how I beat him that particular day....... I told him to meet me in the TA and learn the extreme limits of his flight envelope/control over his plane......
edit: I'm almost positive that these days, Greebo probably can run circles around me........
I don't think I would ever use a tailslide in combat, it would leave me too vulnerable....
