Title: Thought on possible in game advertisement (not intrusive types)
Post by: Scorchdraken on September 05, 2015, 05:24:10 PM
I have had a thought for a while with possibly having advertisements in certain areas of the game that would be non-intrusive, such as at the bottom of the screen in the tower and O-club, along with on the start up screen. (Not the loading screen, but the one where you log into the game)

My thought is that this would help them be able to afford putting in more updates sooner by being able to get some more programmers to work on the game. I know people don't like advertisements, but if it were to add new things to the game faster, I would not complain, since these advertisements wouldn't be obnoxious and in your face during important situations, such as driving a vehicle or flying a plane.

I'm going to give a general example of this. Say they only put a small advertisement banner on the bottom of the screen for things that people in this game would be interested in (joysticks, RC planes, WW2 liturature, etc) that would be no bigger then the radio box that you type into, but underneith the hud, so it doesn't intrude on what you are doing. Now say every time a player veiws the banner the company gets 50 cents per view (I'm not sure how the payments on advertisement work but it's just an example), now if we have 400 people that play the game in a 24 hour period and each one has to go to the tower 10 times due to shoot downs, landing, or other reasons, that would make $2000 dollars a DAY. That would make it very easy for them to be able to add more people to program the game to the team, and be able to get more into the game faster.

Now, I don't know if hitech has already gone into this idea or not, or whether they want to even try, but this is just a rough idea that I've had for a while and decided to get out there.

Ummmmmmmmmmmm, where did you get these figures from?  Is that really what advertisers pay for ads?  If it is 1 penny per ad then your income potential may be a bit off.  What if is 1/10 of a cent per day?  I don't know how this works and what the real fees are for these ads.  Do you?  I'm not thumping you here, as I said I have no idea how this works and it certainly would make a difference on deciding if your idea is viable as I am sure you would agree.  I am going to bet however that the guy that owns and runs a computer game run on the net probably does know how it works.  And again, just a guess here, but there is probably 2 reasons you dont see them now.  1.) HiTech thinks them to be intrusive  2.)HiTech believes them to be too intrusive and not worth the income derived from them.

I do thank you for caring enough for the game to have a suggestion to make more income for the company and therefore keep the game operating for all of us to enjoy.

This is a half brilliant idea.

That said, I hate the idea of corporate sponsorship and ads for products or especially product placement in games.

What I do like is having an easily viewable area in game for advertising other events in the game instead of having a CM spamming the chat buffer.

+1 to AH event ads, not product ads.

Hulu Plus has an $11.00per\month package that eliminates all advertisement in your stream from them. The base package is $7.99per\month with three add blocks with one packed with 2 adds. Watching Hulu free, you get three advertisement blocks with on packed with 3-4 adv runs. If Hulu is acknowledging that customers are getting tired of being spammed to access their enjoyment and fun. Maybe the worm has turned in the virtual sphere.
