Those Brits are cool under pressure going back to WW2.
From my sources I understand it was an engine fire? That particular air frame has RR engine...

I think Grusome did the London - LA run for BA in a 777-300. I wonder if anyone can get in touch with him.

Wow, just got an email from a airline friend. Really quick response from the fire crews, excellent evacuation by the crew.
These are heros! only 2 hospitalized (probably smoke inhalation or elderly)
Outstanding! I love happy endings with heros! :rock :rock :rock :rock

Even though you seem to see it every time, it is still nuts.
Here is a pic with some of the evacuees holding on to their cabin luggage.

On the news I thought I saw 4 maybe 5 people with handbags, computer bags and wheeled overhead luggage standing around the tarmac.
Sometimes you wish that there could be some way, by magic, to implement a policy that said: OK, you want to bring your bags, no problem. But you’ll be last off.

Why do the Brits drink their beer at room temperature?
Lucas refrigerators.

WSJ is reporting them as General Electric, not RR.

British Airways' Boeing 777s have either RR Trent or General Electric 90 engines, but in this case it was a GE engine that caught fire.
This could still be a maintenance rather than a design or manufacturing issue, i.e. someone forgot to do up an oil line.

Huh, when they committed their first order years ago they went all RR. Maybe the recent RR engine problems persuaded them to go GE.

Well it is a GE engine, GE GE90-85B.

The question really should be why do Americans drink cold beer?
Most chiefs will tell you that if you have something that tastes like sh*t, serve it cold. It will work most of the time.
And why are many American beers marketed as "refreshing"? If I want a refreshing drink I have a lemonade!.
My favorite beer is a Dogfish Head 60 minute IPA in a Samuel Adams beer glass about 1 - 2 degrees below room temperature. Magic. :rock
