As a few of you may know, earlier this year Michael Koon, who played Aces High and Air Warrior under the Handle "Whels", has passed away. To the best of my knowledge he was a member of the Damned and a former Member of the ACCS.
He will be missed.

Note: I haven't seen anything on the message boards regarding Whels passing and I have used both the search and I manually went threw the boards.

Whel's was a good guy, was sad when someone posted a few months ago to let us know of his passing. Used to enjoy flying with him and against him in AW and then in here.
-
My condolences to his family and friends.

Ack-Ack can you link the original posting if it was on this forum, I used the search feature and I went threw all the post since his passing twice and I couldn't find anything.

"Whels" was one of the first guys I got to know in AW, and I always enjoyed my encounters with him. I dueled him many times while in AW, and I never could get the better of him in the air. He was always gracious in victory. His is one of the names I always think of and smile when I look back on those early days of flight sims. :salute

This is the first mention (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/index.php/topic,372881.msg4968083.html#msg4968083) of it I can find on our board.

Thanks I didn't check the Oclub only the General Forum. The search engine, even in advanced, only shows the very first post that mention Whels in them and those go back all the way to around 2000.
I found about about Whels a few months back on Facebook about the same way Flossy did. I hadn't talked to Whels in about a year, at the time he was big into Nascar and Racing Games.
I miss him.

Whels? Darn it.
He was just a great guy to fly with. When I was new, I used to look for him - and follow him around to learn the game.
This makes me sad.

When The Damned moved over from Air Warrior back in 2002, Whels was one of the many. Always a stand-up guy and a venerable stick in his PJ.

I found out from Facebook when I saw a reminder that it was his birthday. Very often I just click the link provided and type my birthday wishes, but on this occasion I actually visited his page to do so and was shocked to see he had passed away. I also searched the forums here, convinced there would be some mention, but posted myself when I found none.
I had known Whels from my earliest Air Warrior days and he always made me smile when greeting me every time I logged in with a string of XOXOs. :salute Whels

I am so sorry to hear this. You never knew he was ill because he never complained. R.I.P. Whels.

I have / I had, shy-ed away from not having anything to do with facebook since it's inception...... but just recently have joined facebook, considering it was through Flossy how I found out about Whels' passing, along with some other friends of mine I had grown up with /went to high school with , in which other high school classmates had to inform me of, and with others pleading with me to join FB............ I finally gave in....
Without even telling anyone outside of squadmates...... some AH members have already found me / invited me to be friends or however that works...
Mayhem, I posted about Mike (Whels) on the Damned mail list a short while back and there was a good several replies to the posting, but seeing all the frequent action on the Damned FB, explains why all of us old Damned rusty nails that have withheld from joining FB, keep making posts like "is the mail list still working?" heh...
Whels' passing snuck up on us bout the same way KGann's and Doc's passing did.... not finding out until well after the fact....at least we knew right away with Buzzard's and niff's passing....

Back in 2002 I was new to the game and a good marriage. Third time was the charm. So I dropped my account several times to go to AH rehab. Never took, but each time I came back I was born in a different Country. Every time I landed Knights (I think?)I was impresses by the call to arms of Whels. That guy was all in. A real leader. :salute
