Title: 486DX something

Dug this out of the attic in garage was going to recycle, thought I would plug it in:

Heh started right up dust and all, did beep at me saying cmos battery state low, could be useful for something.

if you have 2 network card in it, you can make a 10mb firewall out of it -using linux

Good idea save, hadn't though about that, any particular flavor of linux for that function?

Meatwad that is teh Bios screen on boot up showing, think it is American Megatrends BIOS I would have to confirm to be sure.

EDIT : yes it is American megatrends BIOS, I can see it in the photo and that keyboard Chalenge is excellent " mechanical " good feel to it, although it has the old large round connector on it, I need a large connector style <- what ever that is called to USB adapter.

PS/2 to USB. I still use the old IBM "clicky keyboard" (model M) myself. You can find the adaptor on Amazon.

It's more likely an AT/XT connector, but there's USB adapters for those, too.

Firewall, file server, HTPC and deep storage are a few uses for old PC's although they may require some modifications depending on what's there and it's intended role.  Regardless, none of those take much computing power.

I miss the 486 and 286 days, those computers were very forgiving on accidental oops's
