Title: Fly World War 2 Missions Friday Nights!
Post by: Squire on September 29, 2015, 12:22:28 AM
For those players who are looking for a "real World War 2 mission" there is no better experience than participating in Friday Squad Operations as part of a team. FSO is run 3 Fridays a month every single month from 11:00 PM EST to 01:00 AM EST. Details can be found in the AH Events link here: http://www.ahevents.org/events/fso.html
Fly as Axis or Allied in competative scored setups where you and your squads statistics can be viewed in a log file. The setups are Western European, Eastern European, Pacific, and Mediterranean from 1939-1945 with a different theme each month. Each side has an overall leader for each frame who issues orders during the 2 hour event. Fly as an escort P-51 over Germany, a Bf 109 on a fighter sweep over Malta, a Yak-9 over Russia, a Spitfire over the Channel, or an A6M5 over Rabaul or many other assignments including CV attacks with torpedo bombers and high alt bomber runs. Experience Midway 1942, The Battle of Britain, 8th AF over Germany, Stalingrad, North Africa 1942 and many others.
To fly in FSO you need to be part of a squad. So ask your mates if they would be interested in joining FSO. We ask for a commitment of at least 4 players and up to 27. You can also join an exisiting FSO squad by posting a message on the FSO BBS as most squads are recruiting. We currently have 200+ players per frame in FSO and we have room for many more.
Its great fun...much like a Scenario but we do them every month.
Please contact me (Squire) on the FSO BBS here: http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/index.php?board=60.0 or email me at warloc1841@gmail.com for any info or questions.
So go to your nearest recruiting station and join today! the virtual world depends on YOU!

I like 7pm-10pm Eastern a lot better. But hell, 7pm-10pm Pacific would be an improvement. You sure about those times??

FSO Frames start at 11pm Eastern and are scheduled to run for two hours. You must be in a registered FSO squad to participate (walk-ons are not allowed). Membership in a squad in the SEA arenas do not conflict with membership with a squad in the main arenas - you can be members of both. If you are not in a registered FSO squad, you can make arrangements with one, prior to the event, and fly with them as a guest.

That's a shame. Maybe someday that will change, I can only dream of flying WWII missions for now. :(

Here's a glimpse of the action in Frame 3 of the recent Battle Of Britain FSO.
JG11 escorted an attack on Westhampnett by the Heinkels of G3-MF and 353rd FG. The RAF showed up in some numbers to contend. Mayhem ensued...

(Although icons in the AH film viewer show at long ranges, while the frame is playing we have icons limited to 3.0k.)

FSO is the best part of Aces High. If you are interested in participating with a good group of pilots, the 412th is seeking volunteers for Friday nights! PM me!

My bad on that.

FSO is worth the price of admission.
Features: -Historically matched plane sets. -Often, the historic planes are MA hangar queens. Open your eyes to diverse aircraft. -Coordinated, planned missions. -Single life. -Three related Frames per month.
Very intense. Very immersive.
Try it at least once.

It is really cool to see the reaction of new players when they fly one of these with us.
With G3-MF, we have planning and discussions through the week. We attempt coordination with the other squads. Some respond and some wait until 15 minutes prior to take off.
We get organized into flights, assign task specifics, discuss comms, cover plane sets and what the technical aspects are and what strengths and weaknesses.
We get onto runway and are silent. Flight leads set up final head counts before Rodent57 gives us the green light to launch.
It can be overwhelming and I know we scared a few away due to feeling intimidated by the discipline and organization. We try to get them back and recruit people we fly with in the MAs. For the most part, our MA guys are our FSO guys unless someone wants to try FSO out. And our coms are very different in FSO vs. the MAs.
MAs we play, relax, and enjoy the game and if we can get something going to attack and take bases, we are having fun and we do it.
FSO is like the super bowl to us. We come with our game faces on and for the most part, act in a disciplined military manner. We take it THAT seriously.
I will also extend the invite. If anyone is interested in flying with us for a month, PM me and we'll arrange it.

The Black Arrows are always looking for pilots to sign up for Friday Squad Operations. If your regular squad doesn't participate you can sign on with us without switching affiliation in the MA. PM me for details!

I've been in and out of the game several times since early beta. I'm hooked up for FSO now and it is keeping my interest for sure. I have been a fan since the mid 50"s of WW2 aviation and FSO replicates the realities of it better than anything I've seen. The MA became just a place to familiarize with the ride I will fly on Friday!

You guys need a registration page kind of like the ones used for scenarios.
You could list all the squads, the members and if there are openings. Update it weekly.
I suspect FSO is a lot like scenarios. I've pretty much stopped playing in the MA simply biding my time between scenarios (I still play an hour or two in the MA every month or two). I've never flown in FSO because I've never been in a squad. I've been invited but it's never worked out (my fault).
Anyway, for loners like me it would be nice to see who's in the squads and if there's an opening then I could make a decision if it looked like I could get into a group I'd like to fly with.

Make a post on the FSO BBS and I am sure you can try out a few different squads BaldEagle. We do not have a Scenario style registration. We register squads not individual players for reasons of playability as we run one event every month. Doing reg individually is just too time intensive and impractical for weekly frames. So get in contact with an FSO squad and see who will take you. You can try a few until you click with somebody. Cheers.

FSO is the best part of the game. :rock
1 life event. 3 Friday's a month. Epic 30+ player vs 30+ player battles. Cool new maps that are not used in the MA. Based on actual WW2 battles. Tons of fun. Register your squad today or join an existing squad. There are several squads who would like to have an additional pilot or two. Do whatever it takes to join the fun... you won't be disappointed. :joystick:
Here is a video of a recent FSO event. Join up!! :airplane:

You can fly with the 111's as well. Smaller squadron but less of a time commitment. PM if interested.

I just recently came back to fly after about a decade off. Rusty as heck and the 412th welcomed me in and and helped me get up to speed. :airplane:
Great bunch of folks and VERY fun!! Really enjoying it. I really look forward to seriously-late-at-night Friday nights! Totally worth staying up for. 11PM EST.

Finally! Being in the Euro time-zone, I always have to figure this out from EST, PST, etc. and with the difference in DST transition (we go this weekend) it gets messy. Much easier if we use GMT! In fact, the clocks in the towers in AH should show Z time, too.
So, for anyone in European central time - 0500.
I won't even mention the constant discussion with Frenchies as to whether it should be GMT or UTC :bolt:

Thanks to Nefarious and the 412th for letting me fly with them last night. I chose the 412th because Nef had invited me a year or two ago but it never worked out.
It was fun but I was disappointed with myself. After not really playing for a couple of months I expected to be rusty. That wasn't really the case but I got target fixated on a Hurri and just couldn't let him go despite knowing I had a con closing on my six.
I might try to hook up with you guys again or with another squad for November (my two favorite planes; Spit IX's and 190A-8's :)) and give it another go. I know I can do better and hopefully, like scenarios, I'll improve frame by frame as I get settled in.

Last week I sent an application on behalf of The Menacing Ferrets, but I haven't heard back except for the automated reply. We'd like to get in on the November event... we played WBs Squad Select Series for a dozen years or so; the event format looks pretty much the same, so we probably won't embarrass anyone.

Glad to see the Ferrets coming in! Surprised it took this long. Main difference between FSO and S3 is, FSO's a bit more limited in that the locations being attacked are always known, so it's just about impossible for a defending squad to not see action as long as everybody shows up.
Loses a little flavor compared to S3, but it's better than the occasional night of boring holes in the sky without seeing anything.
Other than that, it's very similar.
Welcome aboard!
Wiley.

FSO is some of the greatest fun you will have in this game. We of the 364th CHawks specialize in the suicide missions portion of FSO. We love nothing better than flying a penetration mission deep into heavily defended enemy territory.
Come fly FSO! You will be glad you did.

What will you be flying? You can PM me if it's a secret.
I'd prefer to fly a Spit or a 190 if there's an opening on a squad flying one or the other and if they'll have me. Otherwise I guess I'll just take what I can get. Beggars can't be choosers.
