Central Intelligence Network:
A room similar to the O’Club, or a menu on the clipboard consisting of 3 basic features in an easy to read, filterable format. You can monitor all actions and information about your country, intentions, and any information about enemy movement. A 3-part system:
1. Intelligence Gathering and Reporting
2. Information System
3. Stating your Intentions
1.) The first part is ‘INTELLIGENCE GATHERING AND REPORTING‘. The intelligence section would be like a folder which allows pilots to log critical information with a timestamp and expiration in a room that looks like the officer club. Think of PIREP”s (Pilot Reports) in the real world. If you’re flying and notice thunderstorms or some strange weather disturbances, very heavy turbulence in a particular area, you can call in a pilot report and it is issued to other pilots for future flight plans in that area. This is a place to post sightings of enemies in certain sectors, their altitude, and direction of flight. You can post carrier locations, sightings of mass ground vehicles, heavy bomber formations en route, and bases/strats that look like they may be under attack. You would post the critical information first (time, heading, altitude, type, amount, location), then any additional notes or details, and a time for this to expire. Nobody cares about 1 B-17 located in sector 8,10 4 hours ago, so each input would have an expiration set by the user. Currently, the only intelligence we have is the chat log, which is useless, and the message is gone faster than it takes to type it. Plus, nobody refers back to it. When you log on aces high, this would give you something to review instead of just looking for a furball or dar-bar. You can first review intelligence data before making a decision on what you are going to do, and even plan a mission with your squad based on this intelligence.
2.)The Central Intelligence Room can offer other information on the network via the ‘INFORMATION SYSTEM’ Information that is already in the game, but making it easier to read and all in one place, eliminating the need for dot commands. Down time of buildings, strats, bases, and towns would be listed in order of most damaged to least damaged. This way people know what needs the most attention at any given time, and what base is the closest to being captured. You can plan a bomber mission to hit whatever is left untouched at a certain base. All this information being easily and readily available was asked previously by 49Baller, but it fits into my “Intelligence Network” feature I would like to see implemented.
3.)The third, and possibly most important part of this Intelligence Room feature is 'STATING YOUR INTENTIONS'. When two squads who don’t speak to each other, plan a bombing run, or intercept in the same area, it is inefficient and a waste of resources. We don’t need 2 squads and 16 planes hunting down 3 Lancasters. We don’t need 3 squadrons bombing the same strat or airfield, dropping 100,000 lbs. of ords on the same target. Or an M3 wasting his time driving to town only to have 2 goons fly in and drop troops. And we don’t need a 3 hour GV mission being wasted because someone decided to bomb the city with B-17’s the second the GV’s showed up. Wasteful, inefficient, and resource-draining! I think you get the picture.
Stating your intentions in the central intelligence network will allow pilots to review who is going where, and when. And then plan their mission based off this information. If squad X plans on taking A63, and has all the necessary aircraft to do so in 1 swoop, take another base! If that heavy bomber formation that was spotted and reported in the intelligence network already has 8 Fw-190’s en route to intercept, don’t go join them! Intention stating would work much like intelligence reporting, you would state what planes you are bringing, to where, to do what, and what time. It would have an expiration time, and any additional notes (e.g. need additional fighters). This menu too can have a filter, so you can sort intentions in order by most recent, by airbase being attacked, type of flight (escort, bombing, intercept, gv), and by expiration time. If you see in the notes that the group leaving to intercept needs additional fighters, then join them!
This changes gameplay immensely. It makes the game more organized, improves communication, creates realism, and enhances teamwork. It will also create incentives to go spotting on reconnaissance missions and providing surveillance for your country. The intelligence system would constantly be checked in between flights, during flights, and when you first log on. It would add a whole new element to Aces High, and is extremely easy to do (It’s just organized notes and information).
Currently, word of mouth is very sloppy and unorganized in Aces High, the chat is not working! People don’t care and sometimes don’t see the messages that strat runners are heading to X, or NOE mission going to A84, or locations of the carriers, large GV formations gathering in sector x, etc.
*Additionally, you could also use this room to post information such as pilot rankings, statistics, kills, sorties, squad stats, map wins, aircraft information, players, roster, war tours, and all other statistics for stat-junkies.
Very Very Basic Example:
At 10:36 joePilot reports b17 formations in sector 10,17 at 15k heading southwest
At 10:41 mikeAce reports airfield A36 under attack by Me-110’s at 7k
11:05, Only One Fighter Hanger left at A31 needs to be destroyed, and town is White Flagged
At 11:30, The 58th Fighter Squadron is hitting Bish City with 15 Lancasters, need escorts
At 11:31, Bill’s Squad agrees to escort the 58th to Bish City, 58th no longer needing escorts
12:45 Pilot Reported heavy ground fire in sector 10,8,9. GV’s moving West, possibly 5-10
13:29 Carrier Located in 5, 8, 3 heading North, multiple fighters have launched from it
14:50 23rd Squadron sending tanks and supply vehicles to destroy and capture A104
16:50 2 C-47’s carrying troops heading towards A123 for capture
16:55 C-47’s heading towards A123 shot down, needs troops
16:55 A123 town guns re-up in 6 minutes
17:20 45th Squad sending tanks to destroy Rook City
18:30 Spotter planes reported near sector 5, 7 looking for carrier location, heading South @ 15k
From time to time, I wouldn’t even mind sitting in the officers club, gathering information from pilots in the
field via VOX, and gathering/organizing it all from home. Then when someone wants a briefing, they can tune to my radio and I’ll give them a rundown from the radio room on whats going on in the war, and different pilot reports in the area.

Remember your other wish where everybody told you about scenarios and FSO? :aok
War is the realm of uncertainty; three quarters of the factors on which action in war is based are wrapped in a fog of greater or lesser uncertainty. A sensitive and discriminating judgment is called for; a skilled intelligence to scent out the truth.

Yes. But this is extremely simple, and doesn't force anyone to do anything. It's just a message board on the clipboard with intentions and sightings. An optional information system which I think would enhance Main Arena play so some people don't feel like a lost soul in a vast map. Just an idea!
-
This could never happen in Aces High, but the primary danger to intel is unauthorized access to it.
Since Boris Baddenov is notorious for having multiple accounts with three countries active...you get the picture.

And he would have gotten away with it too, if it weren't for Moose and Squirrel.

Feeling lost is an authentic novice pilot experience. :D
Here's a tip. Use ~ to expand the text buffer and scroll through old messages.

I feel for you but you can accomplish everything that you want with the existing tools but people don't use them the way you want. Ergo a voluntary intelligence gizmo would probably suffer the same fate. Dot commands for down times didn't used to exist and the threshold to use them is pretty low. I know what you want but the reality is not everyone wants to play the same game you do, similarly I'd rather fight fighter combat with people who used 303 instead of cannon, and I'd like to ban the LA7. Every once in a while I come across someone who wants the same sustained fight who is good enough but not too good and you get a good sweaty fight, if I was dictator of AH I would have handicapping and organizing for that kind of play. There would be pitchforks and torches. Its the way it goes.

This isn't something that people have to use. It's OPTIONAL. It's essentially the same as a chat screen, just without the spam and conversations. People can post what they're doing, or what they're seeing in an organized manner. If you don't want to use it, don't! Banning the La-7 hinders ALL players from using it, that is totally different.
You could use the same argument for the mission tool. If people don't ever want to fly missions, they simply don't use it. I don't see anyone advocating the ban of the mission tool.
-
You don't have to convince us. Hitech decides what's worth coding.
We're just commenting and offering tips.

I think there is a misunderstanding here, I get that it would be optional and infact if hitech wanted to go to the trouble to make it I could care less. I am not arguing against it just saying that I don't think a lot of people would use it, and that your enthusiasm for it comes from how you would like to play the game which is not correct or incorrect just different from other players. Its not supposed to be insulting.

Join a squad. Then you will have private chat and VOX where your squad mates will perform some of these duties. Between comments about booze, broads and their dog is humping their ankle so AFK to walk the dog. See if you can organize them to play air force. Over the years a few squads have played air force. Most are just people with an hour or two and all they want is to hop into some action before going to bed. FSO is run like an air force if you really need that kind of an experience. And those missions fly blind into enemy territory while flights update encounters in real time along with scouts sent out to find the enemy.
Other wise why do you want Hitech to code something for the playpen arena very few players will ever bother to use while he is up to his eyeballs coding AH3?
Download the alpha and take part in that. You have the two prerequisites, a forum account and an MA account. Currently he is busy working on terrain and object editors with members of the alpha testing updates to those tools. Feel free to contribute to AH3, it's phenomenal.
Oh, browse through the Squads forum to find a squad that likes to play air force in the playpen arena.

First of all, I'd like to say thank you for all your responses and inputs without getting nasty. It's nice to be able to conversate without everyone throwing poop at each other. More people need to understand that constructive criticism is not negativity. This feature was just something to think about, no real need to discuss further, but I am going to add some additional information at the bottom just because I like to type a lot. I do have a question though, bustr, where can I find the Aces High 3 Alpha Download? I'm doing something wrong, I can't find it.
I think MOST people are looking for a different experience in Aces High other than, dog-fighting for an hour before going to bed. If that's all they were interested in, they would probably play some War Thunder, or another arcade shooter. I am not shouting at HiTech to implement this, I am simply offering a suggestion, and conversing about it. I don't want to come off as whining. Having said that, I don't think implementing a separate chat log to strictly report enemy movements and state your own movements is going to take away from AH3 development. And by the complaining I see in chat, and the descriptions of enemy positions often posted, I think more people would use this feature than you guys think. In fact, I think it would be utilized a lot. Here is why.
All I hear is complaining about:
how not enough people are taking bases
ignoring buff sightings
A53 under attack
large dar bar in 8.9
CV located 5.3
nobody supplying HQ
JonnyPilot is sick of bringing troops to town only to see ack up or its not WF or someone else has dropped troops already LoL
how certain bases COULD HAVE been taken if....
If I type LANCS OTW A57, you might see that for about 6 seconds before someone starts talking about doing broads (which there is nothing wrong with that)
CV locations get lost in the chat, and so do transmissions regarding who is already on their way to sink it. Even though you can hit ~ to look back, it is tedious.
-
I actually like the idea. I think it could be as simple as having a second country channel with a time stamp for each entry.
Country, Player99 16:30: two sets of lancs, 5/6 kp 8 15k heading south.

These are both excellent points.
You might have a pop up similar to the Base Status pop up that would be for what your countryment are doing at that base, a place to post a runway mission or mention that your in an M3 under a bridge.
-
Yes exactly. Do you remember in Air Warrior when the computer AI would generate random intel messages? You would see "Bomber Formation in Sector 6,7." This would be like that, minus the A.I, plus the pilot intentions. A separate channel or chat screen would do, but I think a menu in the clipboard would be more professional and polished.
Just today, I took down town, and nobody was deacking. I flew a goon in, but had to turn it around because ack was up. As soon as I landed, someone deacked the field. :bhead These are things that are so easy to fix.
You shouldn't have to be in an FSO or Squad Night in order to have any level of teamwork. The MA can be just as fun solo if there were some sort of information system users could post flight-related topics in an organized manner, aside from the chat log.
I also think it hurts the game when new users come in, try to take a field, and nobody does anything because they don't know whats going on. They get bored of furballing perhaps, and the lack of communication regarding base taking and "the war" cause them to leave for good. I've seen it happen in plenty of other games, and have left several games myself for this very reason.

A whole bunch of guys who have not downloaded the alpha to see what Hitech is up to for AH3. AH2 is almost in the grave with a 21 gun reverent salute.
In the alpha if you zoom in until one sector becomes the map, all aircraft become designated by tiny spitfire top views or tiny B17 top views. They even point in the right direction of travel. We tested for several weeks massive B17 missions into Europe with massive fighter responses. You could choose either side in the AI forces and get immersed with about 100 bombers and about as many fighters. I've fought easier vets in the MA than some of those AI. The earlier BoB missions for fighter to fighter were worse. But, the masses of He111 were fun until the ammo ran out.
You want to take part in the open alpha, go here, follow the directions from Skuzzy and Hitech. Irritate Hitech with things like this post at your risk. It is very apparent he has already decided what AH3 will turn out as, and we are in the alpha to provide feed back for bugs and graphics issues. That battle ship Waffle has been showing peeks of is not for AH2.

N95KF, participate in the Friday Squad Ops (FSO).
A squadmate and I were invited last Friday.
...Alpha and Bravo wings at 25k, 10k hard deck
... Charlie and Delta wings at 20k, 5k hard deck
We were in delta wing. Guess what? Everyone followed orders and went with the plan. It felt like the real deal!
We escorted the SBDs to the Japanese carrier group and then slaughtered the Zeke and Oscar defenders... Text book.
FSO is designed for you!
-
:rofl People are too afraid of spies that they dont even dare to use the country channel to tell people that the horde is going to base A-(X+5) after the 4 previous bases in the chain have been horded...
-
FSO
You wont regret it.
In fact it will blow your mind
It feels real, it feels intense, it feels like you are in a real air combat war. It is nothing like any other game has ever been able to achieve. It's one of the Gems this game has to offer that you should highly consider participating in.

I did download the alpha but my computer can't run it. It sounds interesting.
I have a HD6770 and can play with the graphics defaults and a slide show near multiple planes. Or do the following.
Try turning off clutter, post lighting and put the environment slider on "0". It still looks better than AH2 with all the bells and whistles turned on. I can attack 60 packed bombers with no slide show. And I can fly through the massive could banks of Europe.
Unless your video card is very old or a chip on the mother board. Then my condolences at this time. But who knows, Hitech is still tweeking the monster every day. We don't get told anything, we just test and report back. From time to time he makes tweeks that have changed everything for the better like magic.
