Title: MIRRORS
Post by: BBP on October 13, 2015, 09:07:02 AM
When are we getting MIRRORS like they had in the WW2? They would be a blessing for us older gents who needs a jack and a lever to turn our heads backwards. I can't remember which game had them, but I did see mirrors in one of the airplane games. Perhaps its to hard to do, but it would be a blessing for this game to have them! :x :x :x :x

Love it.  Yes, some early planes did have them.

My experience with car racing games (iRacing) is they are great but they suck resources.  Is your old neck good for 10 fps or do you want a mirror?  :p

Hitech responded once to this often repeated request. It would favor players with high end PC.

There are no mirrors in the alpha either.

If the OP is using TrackIR, you can reduce your 6-axis to 2-axis pitch and yaw, the first two check boxes on the left. Then you will see all of the views you saved for your cockpits as you move your head like mouse pan view. No longer will you have to contort in your chair to look over your shoulder. Just pan your head a small bit to either side. The default AH2 TR profile will work fine at that point. Also works just as well in the AH3 alpha.

Fighters like the C.20x, 47D11, Hurri, and F6f will always be a peta for views no matter how you set them. 2-axis mode will allow you the best possible rear 6 view for those fighters which other wise in 6-axis mode you need to be a young gymnast.

Map a button to give you a snap view over your tail.

If he is using TR in anything but pitch and yaw 2-Axis mode, a button wont work. If he is using the keyboard or hat switch then he already has a saved 6-view.

They would need to re-render the world to put mirrors in.  Not going to happen any time soon, even for extraordinarily large values of "soon".

Given the limited utility of a mirror as opposed to looking backwards (and nobody in an AH aircraft is old, stiff, or beat to crap and can crane their necks around to angles that would normally break important bones...trust me on this) it's far better to set your views.  Play with head position until you get the best view possible for the aircraft you are in, then save the head position.  Your view out the back of an F4U-1, for example, is only slightly less sucky that the view out the back of a B24, but it gets the job done.  You can actually get better vis than might be possible with the actual aircraft tightly strapped to your back, but that pretty much makes up for the monitor being a slightly less realistic view than, say, the Mk 0 Eyeball.  It's all a trade off.

AH already re-renders the world in a mirror image.  How do you think the Environment Map works.  It's a mirror image of the planes surroundings.
There's also an option to disable it.  Wow, bet they could do that with the mirrors to. (On/Off)

Yep.  And environment map is also one of the bigger resource hogs.  Ability to use mirrors is a pretty big advantage just for having a better rig than the other guy.

You can have a mirror. You need 2 PCs and 2 accounts. Put a smaller monitor for the "mirror" above your current monitor. Use the 2nd account to "join" your primary account in the tower or runway and set the view to the rear. Flip the image for authenticity. Note that there will be some lag in the mirrored image.

I'd suggest less alcohol and less f-bombing as a better means of improving your results.  :devil

Actually, I suggested this once. It got shot down, for all the reasons above PLUS:
Vibra-view - the likely view out of a canopy mounted mirror on a piston-engined a/c is likely very shaky.
Too Late: By the time you view that bogey in the mirror, he is hosing you with kanonen.

Not quite.  Prepare to be enlightened:
