The terms.
Horizontal system
Equatorial system
Ecliptic system
Galactic system
Greenwich sidereal time
hour angle
right ascension
declination
Been struggling with them almost all week.

Oh my...
Sounds like you've got your head in the stars.
:D

meH, the Earth is flat :aok
I am convinced that more than half of the things that scientist publish are not meant to be understood, only to impress (did I mention Science was my field?).
I can think of half a dozen more elegant words for crap, but please use basic, common layman's description when it will hasten my ability not to step in it. :D
I suggest another glass of scotch! Right away man!

May be time for a break to Love & War in Texas, Dale . :x

I am just glad he has one. At least it seems like he does, even though he has been busy also. If he didn't I am quite certain he would be way more testi(s) while dealing with all the complaints from the MA. :x

C'mon HT, it's only mathematics. And it's old mathematics at that, if a bunch of Druids can do the math and build stonehenge 10,000 years ago you can put the north star in the right spot on the screen.

The math is easy, it's learning the different terms and Greek letters that are a pain.

perfect time to use the saying....
"it's all greek to me....." :bolt:

I hope you get it right, man.
The last thing you need is some numpty coming here screaming how AH3 is crap because he tried to navigate by the stars on the Tunisia map and got lost...all because the RA of Polaris was .5 degrees off for the time day showing in the arena. :joystick:
-
I don't think I'm a "numpty" but I was a little freaked out in an FSO event where we launched in the predawn darkness. With it being dark, the only indication that some bad guys where around would be some angry-looking red icons less then 3k away which would not be very much warning. The bad guys where expected from the north and I wanted to keep a sharp eye in that direction. But every time I looked over there I would notice the Orion constellation on the horizon and think I was looking east or west and the bad guys might be sneaking up my six.
It also might be nice to see the sun a lot closer to the southern horizon when on the germanyw terrain where it is supposed to be winter in Germany. Besides, when is the sun ever directly overhead in Germany?
Numpty or not, I for one am glade some effort is being put into this mater.
Thanks, HiTeck

I'm totally there with you, MachNix. I'm all about realism and accuracy - I even asked Hitech if the new system will allow for describing the lat/long of a terrain so the sun position will be correct for a given latitude. He said that has always been on his "wish list".

The terms.
Horizontal system (check)
Equatorial system (check)
Ecliptic system (moist and check)
Galactic system (check - size matters)
Greenwich sidereal time (okay, you're getting freaky now)
hour angle (you STUD!)
right ascension (oh baby, check)
declination (check the expiration date on the blue pill bottle)
Been struggling with them almost all week.
HiTech
I hope you came to terms  with this........... :bolt:

Now that is just what I was asking for in my other post asking " how's it going"!
Well at least your work doesn't get snafu'ed and broken by waffle or someone, then they say " I didn't touch anything" ( my usual day fixing envelope machines)
Keep up your good work.. Me and 200+ of your acquaintances like what we see so far.

You think you have it bad; who's going to skin all those stars? Was this an M or an O? What happens when it starts burning helium?
We should make bombers calculate great circle routes to targets. Coriolis effect and rotation speed when bombing or bombarding. Spin drift. You know, the normal stuff... If we're getting stars let's navigate!
-
Hope I can set my nav crew sight to "auto". :old:
The sky looks awesome! :aok

Hehe... you're right: they should be different colors (some bluish white, some reddish white).
-
They are different colors. But I do still need to add the clarity as you gain alt.

So putting the Me-163 in orbit is now a possibility? :)

I'm glad you're enjoying your work :aok :bolt:

Talk with Bozon, he is a doctor in astro-physics.

What I don't understand is if we don't fly at night, why spend so much time getting the stars right? :headscratch:

Scenarios/custom arenas? Can't see them making that big of a change for the MA.

At least this version of "night" is much more realistic. With the post lighting enabled it is not that easy to get oriented with the drones, even with the icon flags enabled. Night fighting would be a nightmare and interesting, if exhaust flame glare was modeled and icons were turned off.
You could have an AI arena where the contest was to up as a night fighter and shoot down the most inbound raiders in the dark. No icons just exhaust glare. Maybe an advanced version with primitive radar.
-
I have always loved nights but too many people turn the gamma up to make it day and take away all the "realism" then those of us that want to fight in the dark are severly handicapped :(
That being said it looks GREAT some intra-squad fights may be fun in a custom arena or in CRABBYLAND 2.0
