Title: German Paratroopers
Post by: N95KF on October 19, 2015, 03:08:12 PM
Can we please have an alternative to the C-47? Possibly a Junkers 52 or Heinkel variant that can drop troops to capture the field? I hate running 109's, 190's, and German Bombers only to drop troops with an ALLIED CARGO PLANE!
Second request, put a gun on it too! Any reason why the C-47 doesn't have some 7.62's on it? Make it something other than a sitting duck.
:salute

Historical correctness aside, the addition of 1-3 machine guns in rifle caliber would not change much in terms of survivability. The only thing you could reasonably hope for is getting a ping on the fighter before he augers, so that you would finally some perks for that. But it still would be a sitting duck. A Ju-52 even more so. It would see very little use outside of scenarios.

I'm pretty sure I read, somewhere, of an account where a C47 forced German aircraft to land when all the infantry stuck their guns out the side windows.
However, for the life of me, I can't find the article..

IIRC, it was a Fi-156 that was captured by the C-47 crew when the Gooney Bird forced the Storch to land at a recently captured allied base.

Would be kinda cool to be able to pick different kinds of troops. Maybe we could get a troops "skin" thing, how cool would that be? Of course, some smart aleck would dress'em in pink thongs or tutu's or something, but hey... anything to bring noobs in!

:headscratch: Now this goes along with how we currently transport troops (albeit in an alternate universe). Junkers C-79, s/n 42-52883, at Howard Field, Panama Canal Zone, late 1942 with the USAAF 20th Transportation Squadron, Sixth Air Force.

Although I agree with Snailman's assessment, I still give a :aok and could you imagine if: Half-track motorcycles (kettenkraftrad) and parachute troops' supply canisters were secured under the fuselage at the bomb bay exits and were dropped with four parachutes.

Yea, I don't really care what the troops themselves look like, hell, I don't even care if the cargo aircraft was armed really. The MAIN POINT of my post was bringing in GERMAN cargo planes to drop troops instead of just flying the goon all the time. German paratroopers captured a TON of territory.

Aces High deserves something with more class, like the Folgore Division and Savoia-Marchettis.
"We really must bow in front of the rest of those who have been the lions of the Folgore Division" -Winston Churchill
"The last survivors of Folgore have been gathered without forces in the desert, none of them surrendered, no one left his weapon" -BBC

The Fallschirmjäger participated in enough action during WWII to have them in AH. Just think... A Ju-52 and DFS-230 Assault Glider. How fun would THAT toejam be? :x
