Instead of terminating the account and erasing all your data when you unsubscribe, at least your in game name and your achievements (which can take a huge amount of time to build up) should be kept. Pretty much standard in other online games.
Oh, and please implement this before this December ;)
-
Hmmmm, I foresee more strat raids into knitland come December.
-
The only way I see this working is if the monthly price of an inactive account is at least as much as an active account. Ideally they should charge inactive account holders more, thereby creating an incentive to have an active account.

Strangely it works in other games ;)
For example, I have been playing EvE online on and off in the past. Each time I came back, I could resume where I left off. If that had not been possible (like in AH), I still would have unsubscribed, but it's highly unlikely I would ever had come back.
Now I'm aware of the differences - character skills and accumulated equipment DO matter tremendously in EvE, while things like pretty sparkling stars and achievements are not exactly necessary in AH
But still, with the introduction of that additional layer AH know has for the first time a feature that can take even years to aquire. No matter how nonsensical that may appear to some ;)
-
I am onboard with this. :aok
I think it would be an incentive to bring former players back if they could just take off from where they left off.
-
+1
People need the ability to take a break, and then resume their subscription, as Lyric said its an enticement to come back
-
Indeed. But I would cap it at one year, longer than that and kiss your achievements goodbye.

Why?
Storage space is dirt cheap.
If I choose to do so I can install EverQuest and my characters will still be there for me to use. I haven't had an active EQ account in well over a decade.
-
I think they should do this but with a few conditions such as, you have to have played for a year, you are only allowed one or two suspensions a year, that kind of thing. If somebody has been playing 5 years it seems like it would be a reward for loyalty.
There is also the idea that if people kept their identity they would be more likely to come back even if it meant month on month off. Its a puzzle.

oh yall just reminded me i need to call HTC tomorrow err today i guess it is and give them my new cc i forgot to change it and got the naughty email :bhead
-
But wouldn't this negate the desired effect of players being hesitant to stop paying because they don't want to lose what they've accrued?
-
This is why I must call them lol ive restarted these achievements 3 times now....not again haha

:headscratch:
Hard to say HTC would have to look at their numbers to see what makes the best business decision.
-
I would gladly pay for a month's subscription to have it suspended and then pay for a month upon return :old:

I can see this being an issue with some, as they actually go for max achievements. Having looked at some, I can see that they would take a great deal of time to accomplish.
But for me, it's the perks. I have few perks compared to most, but I have enough to jump into anything a few times. The thing is, it took me a while to build two of the categories, Fighter and Vehicle, to where they are now. I don't do fighters, just not my thing as I prefer bombers. Vehicles I mess with quite a bit more, but not to the point where I would gain perks at a reasonable rate to justify the use of the heavies on even a light rate. One of the reasons I keep my account active is due to my meager perks I built up in those two categories. Thing is, even if I could keep the account and it's perks/achievements after letting it go inactive, I'd still keep my account active. :D
So keeping perks would also be a plus. :)
+1 to OP, regardless. :aok
-
I never much paid attention to 'achievements.' I never used perks much, either (not that I earned all that many during my active periods, whatsoever). When I'm active again it'll be from scratch (and that's fine). :old:

I agree with lusche here. If we have achievements and ways to gain value in the game, it shouldn't all be erased simply because a player hasn't resubscirbed in a few months. I haven't played BF4 in like 6 months but if I logged on tonight all my achievement and unlocks would still be there, which is nice.
There needs to be a name identity so that players do not get their original names taken, or their achiements lost if they unsubscribe. If Hitech allowed for longer names with 10-12 charactors, it would open for more unique names and a wider range of names to choose, thereby allowing people to keep their original names in a database for longer.

99% chance it won't be, especially if you've been inactive for a number of years and character was low level. Some companies don't wait more than a year before purging inactive accounts, EA is an example with SWTOR. Not even a year into the game and the database was purged of inactive accounts to free up character names after a server migration.
-
I would also have to give this at least a +1, if not more than that. Without knowing precisely how HTC handles accounts it would seem to be a pretty small row in one table of the database. I can go back to 2001 and pull up my scores, so THAT data, at the very least, is persistent forever.

Can't speak to SOE, but Blizzard does not. They did free up all the names for accounts that had been long inactive, but if one of those Vanilla WoW players does reactivate they will still have their level 60 characters, but they will probably have to give them new names.
-
If you're into that kind of thing you may want to check out project 1999. It's basically pre-luclin EQ, before EQ got all bastardized.
-
I checked. My EQ characters are still there, should I for some reason wish to play EQ again. I don't and don't expect I will, but they are there.
-
Would have loved this, burned a ton of perks a couple times when I had to go on leave
-
I think the perks points should have a time limit on them, reguardless if your active or inactive. use them or lose them.
-
does anyone know if our ID, perks & achievements will transfer to the new AH3 game.or is it going to be fresh start for all ?

If not, the outrage would break the boards :rofl

Why wait? Beat the rush and be pre-outraged! Nothing says "Internet Veteran" like pitching a fit over something that hasn't happened yet.

:aok +1
Lord of the Rings Online too...same as others, hmmm I haven't been there in awhile

I would expect them to transfer. Perks transferred from AH1 to AH2.
