When I was growing up in the mid to late fifties, every comic book and magazines like Popular Mechanics had small ads with WW2 surplus jeeps for sale for I think fifty bucks. I thought that was so neat but too young to find out what it was about. I did buy a .35 McCoy model airplane engine for $4.95 from one of those small comic book ads.. It still runs today.
Anybody remember those jeep ads and better yet, anyone know of someone who got one of those jeeps?

Whatever you do, DON'T Google it. You will likely be as crushed as I was to find out, because I too remember those ads. Some times, I hate the internet...

I do. And it was $50, as you say.
Never knew anyone who actually bought one, but I keep thinking that somewhere, out there in a barn maybe, there's a WWII jeep in a crate with the Oldman's name on it and a $50 price tag.

It was a scam you nubs.

My stepfather put a bid in for $10 on a U.S. government sight unseen.
The only lot description was "vehicles". He wound up winning with that
bid. He had to paying shipping to his home which came to a little over
$300. It turned out the lot consisted of 10 WWII jeeps unassembled and packed in
some sot of grease! I'd say he got his moniesa worth. Of course that was
30 yrs or so ago. He sold 8 of them and kept 2. I have no idea how much
he made but I'm pretty sure it covered the cost of the shipping. Oh and the
$10 bid :cheers:

The Roy Rogers showed featured a WW2 jeep. I noticed on a couple of episodes they had an adapter to add dueles to the rear wheels. I have seen videos with tractor plow adapter kits as well that were sold right after the war.
