Are you going to use Midi's Pearl terrain? Highly recommended.

We will indeed have the terrain named "pearl".

Hi Brooke,
I was thinking about inviting my squad to participate in this.
Before I do that, could you tell me how it's set up?
For example are there pre-designated "commanders" for each side who
will form up various cadres of pilots into their respective roles/flights?
Or is it a "just show up and fly something" at the designated time affair?
Best regards, Odd

Please do invite your whole squad (and invite other squads as well -- allied squads or nemesis squads). :aok
If you sign up your squad, you guys can pick one of your guys to be CO of the entire side. I am happy to have someone volunteer for that role.
In "This Day in WWII" events, players are not assigned to particular planes. It is not formal in that regard like Scenarios or FSO's.
I think that you'll like this event -- it is the most-popular "This Day in WWII" event, and everyone seems to have a good time.

Hi Brooke,
Okay, consider The 47 Ronin "signed up". (Is there actually a "sign up" area someplace?)
I think I can field at least a half dozen guys in total; maybe more.
We'll fly as Japanese, but I won't be stepping into the role of "Supreme Commander";
I've too much on my plate these days and am content being a squad C.O.
Best regards, Odd
-
There is no sign-up page. Just show up ready for a good time! :aok
-
Hi Brooke,
I put the word out to my squaddies of The 47 Ronin and it looks like we'll be fielding
7 pilots for "Pearl Harbor".
I thought it might heighten their collective senses of immersion if we prepared ourselves
properly prior to the beginning of hostilities, so I ordered up some "hachimakis"
and will be mailing 'em out to my participating pilots on Monday.

Bribery at its best! :D

Excellent! :aok
-
Forgot to mention, we're doing the 10PM Eastern U.S. one.
Any other squads doing this one? It'd be nice to have a bit of
coordination at the onset of hostilities.
Regards, Odd

It was fun last year. All things being right with the world, and we will be in again this year.
-
9 days to go! Any squads involved in this?
I'm fielding 7 pilots from my herd; I hereby challenge
any squad, regardless of country affiliation to do better! :D
Best regards, Odd

Flew the early and it was fun. It would be better with more fliers so maybe tonight? :airplane:
-
Our Squad of three sank 8 ships I think you imperialist dogs. :D
Guys great fun using the torpedo planes.
-
Thanks for the great turnout to the 3:00 pm running of Pearl Harbour! I hope you all enjoyed it and had fun. :aok
Results are:
Allies
24 kills = 24 points
Axis
9 kills = 9 points
4 objects destroyed = .4 points
Total: 9.4 points
Victory to the Allies! :salute

Thank *you* for flying in it! :aok

For the first time we tried torpedo planes in the 3pm and 10 pm. Had a blast but the dar-bar takes away the surprise aspect of the attack. Suggest doing away with the dar-bar next year. Getting a torpedo plane to the harbor without being swarmed by fighters was nearly impossible.
Another thought would be axis start say 15-20 minutes earlier than the allies with the dar off then turn on the dar-bar on and let the allies launch. The point is simulate the surprise aspect if you can.
I noted in another post I think our squad got 8 ships but the score showed 4 objects in the 3 pm event.
-
Howdy, Randy.
The harbor ships don't show up in the log because of the type of objects they are. So, I have to check it visually to see that the requisite number of ships are down at the end of the battle.
Thanks for your thoughts and for playing. :aok

Next month's "This Day in WWII" . . . Battle of the Bulge!
P-38L, P-47D-40, P-51D, Spit IX, Spit XIV, Typhoon
vs.
Bf 109G-14, Bf 109K-4, Bf 110G-2, FW 190A-8, FW 190D-9, FW 190F-8
along with tank battles in the snow.

Had a super time. Thanks for setting this up every year.

Brooke,
On behalf of The 47 Ronin, I thank you for your time and efforts in setting this up
and running it.
Though our particular group of 8xB5Ns and 2xA6M2 escorts got savagely mauled,
we got a lot of action, some cheap headrushes and had a lot of fun with it.
It was a great introduction to "themed" events in Aces High for some of my newer
pilots.
As well, my thanks to all the AH pilots who showed up for this one. Turnout was a LOT
higher than I'd anticipated.
Best regards, Odd

We were mauled as well.
I think the dar hurt the axis side. I proposed next year the axis get a 15-20 minute head start with dar off to simulate the surprise attack aspect of Dec 7th.

Hi Randy,
This is a GREAT idea, and I'm all for it.
I see last night's op as a "playtest" of sorts and it showed that some tinkering
is in order to "fine tune" it.
Maybe Brooke can play with it some and we can run it again in a few months? :aok
Best regards, Odd

Thanks, Odd! :aok

yes, lock allied until the actual first wave bombs. put allied in guns for the first 5 minutes, it might be fun!
I only played the first two years and this has been talked about before. brooke no need to reply, im just letting you know im still here waiting.
