Title: The Art of deOrding
Post by: Slade on November 11, 2015, 08:05:22 AM
What is the best plane for destroying Ords on an airfield and why?

Some observations may be that:
* It needs to survive ACK.
* It needs to do it effectvely (faster and fewest possible passes).

Thanks,

Slade  :salute

I like the 110G.  One pass...boom, and pretty durable.

Fw190F8, with its 12 standoff rockets and its 600mph dive speed, its no brainer.
it does not carry the heaviest loadt but can take more punishment than any other fighterplane, radial engine and very heavy armour makes pilot injuries an rare event.

I have counted 11 ack hits and still land successfuly , less 2 cowl guns and one flaps shot off.

In general any reasonably fast heavy fighter will do the job. Rockets or bombs can be dropped outside the effective range of field ack so if you can use them with accuracy it is preferable. Planes w cannons are also a good choice, preferably those w the guns close to the centerline, La-7, Fw 190 etc.

Dropping ords w a single Moss XVI from 30k+ is also a pretty low risk project. Its very useful when you need to pork a very hot field w a lot of high cons. Happens rarely nowadays dough.

a few days ago 2 squadies took down rook ammo to 0% and i upped a single b29 with 40 500lb and started porking frontline bases, after we was done rook had no ords for over 2 hours on the entire knight front  :D

cobia that is way cool man!  :salute

Thanks all for the feedback especially those that gave the reason why you use the plane you do.

The 190F???  Every time I take her up, if something breaths in my general direction, I get a pilot wound... :noid  Otherwise, I will admit that she can take a beating. :aok

Not that any Rook would ever take ordnance for any reason, but WTG... i think.

If Rook's take a field it's by mistake, trying to resupplying a friendly GV somewhere, and took troops (because you killed his ord.)  :D

I use a tiffy. Take 2 1k bombs and climb to 8k over field alt.

The bombs take out both ords of a small field in one pass. For medium fields, bombs for two in one pass, cannon for the other two, also in one pass, radar finishes the pork for a safer egress.

I use the B-26 at 6k agl and 250lb bombs calibrated to between 260-265 mph. If you run the right line through the base you can get them all in two passes on the larger fields with only 4 minutes of seperation between them. You only need 1 bomb per plane with a whole formation and you can also drop other targets like the VH, Barracks, or other targets

I do see a weakness in the ord system when one plane can shutdown a whole country at times.

If I flew to an enemy field and all I got was ord, I would be ashamed.
