Title: Springfield XDs 9mm
Post by: CptTrips on November 14, 2015, 04:26:22 PM
Anybody have one of these? Thoughts?
I have a XD .45 cal and love it, but it's a bit bulky to carry.
I was looking at the Glock 26 9mm too, but there might be some advantage to sticking XDs as its functions exactly the same as my .45 just smaller.

Never carried one but have put a thousand or so rounds thru one.. Was a pleasure to shoot. Good idea sticking with a firearm that you have the muscle memory with.
Didn't care for the glock 26...didn't fit my hand well even with the +1 mag extension. (I every day carry a g19 and Sig P225) I dress to carry larger firearms tho

If you like the .45 round and punch, try a Colt Commander with the 4.25 inch barrel. I personally liked it better than a 9mm Glock 23 although if you're going to be action shooting you'd probably shave a couple seconds off your time with a 9mm with lighter weight.
I carry a Colt Commander under a T-shirt and no one notices.
Edit: I meant the G26 not the G23 above...
Also, Colts go up in value, Plastic guns, not so much. No disrespect to Glock, they make fine weapons. I've just never seen someone sell a Glock for more than what they paid for.

I have a Glock 26. I like shooting it, it's a great gun but it is bulky to carry. I went with something else for concealed carry.
I'd say go with what you are used to, or if really considering switching go to a range and rental the types you want to get. :aok

I have trained with and carried a .45 cal Kimber Pro-Carry for a decade or more.
Recently, I took a defensive handgun course where we fired approximately 600 rounds over the period of two days, and I was the only one firing a .45 ACP. At the end of the course the gents who stood to my left and right during the live fire sessions said they were glad that they didn't have to endure the hammering of my .45 anymore. It seems the noise of the .45 alone took away some of their concentration. I can live with that! :-)

I have the XDs in .45 (3.3 in. barrel) and love it, great for conceal carry. It is very controllable, and accurate.
I also have the XDm in 9mm (4.5 in. barrel), also a great firearm.
I've put hundreds of rounds through both without a hiccup.
I highly recommend it.

I went with the XDs 9mm. I looked at the M&P Shield but it didn't quite sell me. I was debating real hard on the Walther PPS. It and the XDs were so similar though the XDs tipped the scale because it has all the same operation as my XD .45 I am already used to so no new muscle memory to learn. Gonna take it out to the land next week and put a hundred rounds through it. :D (https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/37424014/XDs9mm.JPG)

Very nice Wab!! looks like it will be a nice carry piece.......
I just saw where Sig is making a smaller version of the 229......As soon as its released I guarantee it will be on order for me at the shop..(im a bit of a Sig Sauer junkie, I own 7 of their handguns and 2 rifles)

Sweet looking form factor. Not sure about the .40 cal though. I keep seeing a lot of people with beefs against the .40 cal. Do you have any other forties?
(p.s. 7 handguns? Are you a well ordered militia or something? :aok)

I would get it in .357sig not a big 40cal fan. I'm a 9mm / .45 cal kinda guy. But have p239 in 357sig that I enjoy shooting immensely
Actually quite a few more than 7.....I use to work at a gunshop/indoor range so I got things at extremely good prices. I would also buy used firearms that were traded in if they were in great shape. In all honesty, My real vice is high end bolt action rifles......... :D

Nice Hajo! I always figured you for a 1911 guy. :)
I carry a Colt Commander. (1911 frame with a 4 1/4" barrel). Much easier to conceal than my previous carry (now safe queen) Para Ordnance .45 cal PT-12 Double stack. The Para has a shorter overall frame but the bulk of the double stack made the grip that much thicker.
I have a Colt 1911 full frame but it's too valuable to wear. It's a safe queen (98% 1916 made with Colt letter)
In the summer when I'm wearing T-shirts, I prefer an IWB holster with my Makarov when walking around down town since it leaves the least 'bulky footprint' when wearing thin T-shirts.

Hey Rip thanks! I've always had 1911s' for protection. It shot very well right out of the box. Great target shooting handgun also.
