All,

Nice job on this one. It was generally balanced, and I liked the variety of aircraft. Also the emphasis on low level action was great.
My only gripe was that some of the objective locations were not too well thought out. I'm still surprised that the Allies did not rush the bridges in Frame 1, as they were much closer to the Allied forward field than the closest Axis active field. I've seen this done almost every time the objective is closer to the attackers airfield, so a big <S> to VF-17 for not exploiting a design flaw.

It was written in the rules that I couldn't hit the bridges from the close airfield in Frame 1, just not directly stated. I only had 1 Airfield in France, and the rules said that all P-38Js and P-47D-11s must be based at 120. Only 2 air frames per airfield, and neither were allowed to carry ordinance.

Axis was sorely lacking in friendly fire incidents. Please fix that. :airplane:

A very fun FSO with lots of action. Good job! <S>

We were busy that's for sure. Twas a hoot!

The Unforgiven handed us (vf-17) our hats in frame 3. Well done Unforgiven.

IMHO the only things that need tweaking in the setup are requiring Axis to hit ships and the placement of targets.
Axis got only 4 points for sinking a ship (of any kind including CA) vs say 3 for a barracks. Ships are nasty to attack as they can defend themselves with that wall of ack. If you are going to keep the ships then turn the ack down to .00 and make an adjustment for bomb damage. 250lbs breaks a 3 point bunker but 2000lb for a 4 point ship is unbalanced (by about 5X times). Requiring a quarter of the Axis to hit ships in each frame basically just took them out of the game. More than that were involved of course because sending the minimum without escort is not nice.
A single ship target would have been enough, or if the landing barges are breakable, then make them targets similar to the bridges.
I'll focus on the ships because it also highlights the second problem - target placement. With the ships and the defended airfield(s) all in the one area it was relatively easy for the Allies to reposition for defence in the second phase.
The Axis were split well north and south and it proved fruitless trying to defend late in the frame with the few aircraft left from the carnage at the ships. The remaining few fighters were finding themselves at the wrong end of the map with no time to intervene in late raids.
It's just a matter of balancing the field positions of both sides at the start and then see if that impacts the second hour.
The action as it occurred was great and there were frantic battles about. Well done.

I agree that it was rather easy to defend the allied targets. As allied CiC for Frame 1, I basically assigned the defensive squads a piece of sky to defend rather than the airfield. The objectives were close enough together that we could support each others defenses.

A DD has 11 guns worth 3 pts each that are nicely clustered together that should of given a lot of points for a single bomb hit. Hopefully you were getting the entire 37 pts for sinking a DD and not just the 4 pts for the ship. I do not know how many guns a CA has but hopefully you were getting credit for all their guns too if you sunk the CA. I don't know if it worked that way but you should get full credit for the guns if you hit a ship with 2000lb of ords which is enough to sink it.

I dropped on one of the DD's and lit up my text buffer, was fun!!

:salute Gentlemen thank you for the kind words, you guys are classy to fly with or against! :aok
Planning for this one (122 attack) was all Doc4 our Special Events Officer, risky but fun.
From my perspective the 3 Mossies we ran into mopped our butts up there at the end after we had rearmed and headed back to A122. Sorry about that 30MM HO shot there Rodent but ya have to do what ya have to do sometimes. :devil :salute
We love our FSO!!

Flew first 2 missions and have to say it was a lot of fun! Great air combat all around! Thanks for the scenario!

Sounds great but no. In fact field guns were also worth 3 points and were there for the picking, just not on ships. Last frame Axis sank 4 ships (8000lb) for 16 points which is 4 points less than a hangar. In frame 2 the Axis sank 8 ships (16000lb) for 32 points but scored 12 points for the 4 field guns destroyed.
See what I mean? It needs a tweak for balance. It's hard to convince yourself that killing an ack on an airfield is 75% of the value of a CV.

Not really. I'm not sure how you sink a CV without killing some ack too. But, somehow you managed to sink 8 ships in Frame 2 and only score 2 field guns. Where these ships those LSTs or where they CAs and DDs and there is something screwy with the logs? I figured you could drop a couple of 250kg bombs on a DD and wipe all 11 field guns for 33 points. Whereas if you drop two 500lb bombs on a hanger worth 25 points, you would get nothing.
-
If you read the write-up scoring, it sounds like the ships were scored as one object - either it goes down or it doesn't. I don't think the guns on the ships were scored as separate objects. Just like the bridge spans...all or nothing.

You still not seeing it? You get zero, nothing, nil, none, zip, not a wooden bit, for killing the ships guns. I can only presume that you find it even more unbelievable than I do.
Still a fact though.

Actually I'd love to know how that bridge span went down in the last frame. There were 4 Mossies escorted by P47s up high that looked and smelled like old bait. We gave them a poke and drove down to see if anything was coming in low. Nothing was seen but the bridge was already down. It was possible to attack the bridges without flashing anything in that area, before, during and after. Is that what happened. There is absolutely zero on my film of any attack on the bridge.
