TheChive does a LOT of charity work for vets, children, etc.
Someone on this board, and I'm sad I don't remember who, pointed me to it and I took a look. It was a good way to waste time at work when I was bored. The T&A was nice, the funny posts were better, and then one fine day they posted this story.

I didn't have a lot to spare but I put $5 in the pot that day. In a very short period of time we raised $250,000 to help Taylor. I was amazed, shocked, and humbled. That day I became a serious Chiver.
They recently raised quite a sum for a veteran who wanted to build a place where soldiers with PTSD could get help.

Sadly Justin Fitch has passed but his dream lives on thanks to The Chive Nation.

There are tons of other stories about how either Chive Charities, flash campaigns, or both have helped people in need.

I've always thought that HTC was one of the best communities on the web and it is. There are a lot of seriously awesome people here and I've made a lot of good friends. TheChive does a lot of really good work out there with the motto 'make the world 10% happier'. We call ourselves misfits and use phrases like 'My Drinking Club Has A Charity Problem'. We have meetups locally and it's not hard to find someone who can help you out with advice, consolation, pointing you to a good honest local contractor, and so on. During the snow storms in DFW last year a bunch of guys with the big 4 X 4's or Jeeps were answering posts for people who were stuck and would go pull them out for free.
It's a good community of misfits that, in general, try to do good things. We have our idiots, trolls, and bad actors, like any other group. But if you see someone running around in a Chive T shirt chances are they're good people.
