Please put a one hour timer on the player like other games, if no activity give warning and boot. Having the other side join your side at night to raise your eny (then going to be) is getting old. That coupled with afk off to bed guys (hoping for perks) on your side kills game play. Tonight on rooks, seemed like a lot of typical bish were on rook. We had 35 in tower 11 playing, knits had like 13 and bish had something like that (actual amount escapes me but only had 7 or so in tower). We had eny of 18, 24 then 30 inside of two minutes!.
I would ask if guys would just quit gaming the game and play it the way it was meant to... that won't happen.
ps i been guilty of rl distraction and being afk too long, working to correct this from my end.

It's a myth.
-
People who park in hangers for perks or to drive up ENY should be kicked after 30 minutes of sitting there.

dont worry, my son got sick so I left 2 minutes into log in. came back in the morning to find out I was still logged in as a knight. so it all evens out with the rooks.

You do realize that the majority of the time that would make the ENY impact worse, not better, right? Those extra butts in the seats smooth out the percentages most of the time.

How so?

whilst we are on topic, I see that the infamous tower sitter "Cybro" is still at large in the arenas.
Now I know most go "whatever all sides do it" but having a blatant disregard for any sort of sportsmanship and paying to use an additional account purely for intel is a little unfair to those players that play by the book. I appreciate HTC can't really do anything about guys having 3 accounts and manipulating the system for their own small minded games but it can only increase the animosity and paranoia between the chess pieces.
So if we can have something like a 10-20minute tower boot for inactivity it will aid the ENY system to be updated quicker and be more effective.
If you don't agree then at least it will be annoying for cybro to keep logging in every 10 minutes distracting him/her from what they are actually trying to achieve under their active accounts.
-
Cybro doesn't tower sit, he drives a jeep close enough to a base to flash it, and hides in a barn. So he's actually "in play" (if you will).
-
How so?
ENY works on a percentage basis, right? It's not entirely unreasonable to assume roughly even amounts of tower sitters from each side.
So just for easy illustration, your side has a 10 person advantage over the other two, and no tower sitters. So the sides look like:
K: 10
R: 10
B: 20
B has 50% of the players, ENY for 50% of the players.
Now let's throw in some tower sitters.
K: 20
R: 20
B: 30
B now has 43% of the players, ENY for 43% of the players, which would be less of a penalty.
Just an example, the actual percentages where it would change the ENY penalty for the game would be different, but the logic stays the same.
Personally, I'm still in favor of kicking inactive players because then at least the ENY you get is more the ENY you deserve. The downside is, anything they do to kick people would be easily circumventable by anyone who wants to.

Troll the troll! Can't argue against a paid account, but how one uses said account should have an impact on the privilege of having an account. :old:
At the very least, like Bruv states, there should be some annoyance or hindrance to undesirable actions in game. I'm sure one loses an account for "cheating", why not negatively impact someone for multiple account "gaming the game" schtuff.
Can't limit account per ISP because, terrible business model... But perhaps there could be some form of strike system where repeat offenders showing multiple accounts simultaniously logged onto a single arena on all countries would have some penalty imposed...
Sitting in Tower for x amount of minutes -> dot dar and bar dar go dark = no spy viability at a glance to a second computer screen. Sure they could re-up, but the point is the cheater has to be active to gain advantage rather than passive.
All three accounts from same ISP on different countries? No Dot Dar, no text chat, no bar dar, just a lovely view from your jeep...
I dunno, it's not an easy solution when part of the issue is the company is making money of this type of action. I'd have a hard time turning down cash in hand from someone willing to be a d-bag, but lawful evil with respect to game rules...
-
First of all: There will always be people in the tower. People that have finished a sortie and is about to reup, people waiting for a mission to launch or getting some coffee or whatever.
Second: If people in tower did not count towards ENY it will most certainly lead to people telling team mates to not up so they can launch their perk ride (or getting more perk points for their sortie)

So... sitting in a flak at a base in the rear would be A-OK then? If they decide they have to be doing something, then they'll just need to install AutoHotKey to turn the turret a bit every few seconds.
Or is HTC supposed to hire someone to police people to make sure they're playing Properly(TM)? Determining Proper(TM) gameplay should be a fun exercise. I am sure the entire playerbase will instantly agree what it should be.

I'm guessing you mean IP, or do you seriously want people from the same area with limited internet choices to only be able to play cooperatively? In any case, if you're in the same house, you're not allowed to fly against each other? I am well and truly glad you don't run the game.

My memory is more than a little fuzzy on why the ENY was
instituted. If I recall correctly, it was because RJO, BJO and
KJO were staking out nights where their numbers were the greatest
and so each night was a horde of one country or the other.
Some complained hence ENY.
Now we have, for the most part, a one country horde most days/nights
So much for ENY :noid

So......How fast is our player base shrinking again?
As for my suggestions, they are just that. YES there are alot of factors which I hadn't considered. Not a decade old subscriber here. Forgive my ignorance, lest I be intellectually struck down.
No i don't want to limit people within the same house from being able to play. No I don't want to have a secret police moderator force.
Do I want to enjoy the game on the same level as other paying subscribers? Yes.
Do I want to be penalized because another player has more cash than me? NO. If i wanted that I'd play a game with micro-transactions where the biggest wallet is the best, I wouldn't be paying for Aces High.
So Wiley, my sincere apologizes for coming to a public forum to submit my ignorant solutions to an issue which is directly and indirectly causing a loss of subscribers.
I love this game and want the chance to play it when I'm an old fart shaking my fist at "young whipper-snappers", but I won't get the chance if people are continued to be allowed to circumvent the game at the expense of paying subscribers.

Back in June Hitech came up with a brilliant answer to all of this..... :O
6\3\2015
After years of players complaining about ENY & tower sitting I have finally come up with a solution.
In the next version I will be removing the display of players counts in flight and only display total players. :t

People keep coming in with the same suggestions that can be circumvented with virtually no effort on the part of the circumventor. Just pointing out why they haven't done it. My apologies if you take pointing out why it won't work as a personal affront.

The best part of the game is, you have the freedom to do what you want within the limits imposed by the game and physics. The worst part of the game is, other people have that same freedom.

THIS! ^^^^
Problem being that the limits imposed by the game are not the same across the board. I hate micro-transactions, and the fact that one can circumvent the spirit of the game by dishing out more money is just infuriating.
(Sorry Wiley, :salute just frustrated by the whole situation around circumventing limitations to gain an advantage.... You're not the first person to bluntly respond to my suggestions. Again, frustration on the part of new players, ESPECIALLY THE BBS, is that you guys have experienced this, but alot of us younger players are coming into this without being part of the, "nice try kid, but here's why that won't work" discussion. We want to help, but don't realize or understand that many issues have been examined and found to be easily overcome by the nefarious player.)

Yep. I get it. Personally I think "this is why it hasn't been done/won't work" while sucking, is a lot better than silence, then the thought of "Why haven't they implemented obvious solution X?" in the face of that silence.
I'm surprised none of the people who usually jump on the "we should have the right to be AFK overnight because reasons" bandwagon haven't shown up in this thread. I have never seen an online game that didn't boot inactive players after an amount of time before, but I understand HT's stance that it's just too easy to get around without some human monitoring it.
We just need at least 400 people in the arena at all times and for the most part, it won't matter. ;)

REAL COMBAT LACKS ENY SO WHY EVEN HAVE IT. IF YOU LOSE DO TO LACK OF NUMBERS SO BE IT. YOU GET A NEW MAP SOONER AND STILL GET TO BLOW STUFF UP.

Yeah. Players like Cybro don't exist. Right.

Cybro and his spy account smooth things out? Lol
People asleep at the wheel on my team hurt me. Boot them.

Usually he is parked at a base furthest from the front. I see him do that all the time when he is spying on the Rooks.

This is an "Air Combat Simulator" as HTC has pointed out. This simulator is trying to reproduce the real combat of air combat without killing people.

It's both really. Since there's points, it's a game. YMMV

Yup, as I pointed out in my subsequent post.
