Title: Cuba and America
Post by: zack1234 on December 17, 2015, 01:49:38 AM
Are resuming commercial flights!

Well done!

I believe Cuba has the highest level of reading books in the world and lots of doctors.

Books are those things not on Wikipedia.

Paper books can be cut and pasted but you need glue.

So, there are 3 levels of health care in Cuba from what my wife (Nursing Director) has told me based on her communication with other doctors she works with.  There is a facilities that does business in what you might call vanity treatments: Botox, liposuction, and breast implants. These are separate, or segregated, facilities on Cuba.
People speak of “tourism apartheid.” For example, there are separate hotels, separate beaches, separate restaurants, separate everything.

The second health-care system is for Cuban elites In the previous Soviet Union they called this "nomenklatura" but includes party artists and writers, etc. Their health care system, like the one for medical tourists, is top-notch.

Then there is the real Cuban system, the one that ordinary people must use and it is deplorable. There is lots of testimony and documents out there if you want to do the research. One of my wive's friends who lives in Miama did her master's paper on it. Hospitals and clinics are crumbling. Conditions are so unsanitary, patients may be better off at home. If they do have to go to the hospital, they must bring their own bedsheets, soap, towels, food, light bulbs, even toilet paper. And basic medications are scarce. In the real "Medicine for all" Cuba, finding an aspirin can be a chore. And an antibiotic will fetch a fortune on the black market.

So, there is the reality of "socialist health care" Sort of like the book Animal Farm..."Some pigs are more equal than others"

Seem like not long ago 10 55 gallon drums and some rope was a realistic plan.

Some good old gringo moneys should help create some jobs.  I would not mind going there if it is clean, safe and jamming.

I can't believe it took so long!
After all, the U.S. normalized relations with
Vietnam a decade or so ago and they whooped our
arses in our war with them. What did Cuba do to us?
They repelled an invasion backed by us. So hyporacy anyone?  :huh
I was stationed with VC-10 at GTMO and got to know the Cubans
that worked on the base (needless to say this was a very long time ago).
They struck me as friendly enough although they were upset with the embargo.

This may be true (Heck the Canadian come down here for specialized medicine) but "any country" doesn't have patients that must bring their own bedsheets, soap, towels, food, light bulbs, toilet paper...at the cost of the "Party" members.

I'd like to go to Cuba within the next 2 years, it is about as close as you'll get to see 1950's architecture and vehicles anywhere in the world. As soon as money starts flowing into Cuba all of that history will be lost and I'd like to see it before that happens.

This is a false statement!  What is true is that they both believed this yet in reality the rest of the country despises them.  Yes, america laughs at new Jersey not with it.  So, the governor of new jersey and mayor of Toronto walk into a bar...   :x

Before I had a bunch of dental work done I was told that I could get it all sorted out in Cuba for a fraction of the cost.  A girl from a bank I deal with told me about her husband's trip to get a bunch of implants done.

I didn't go and paid a flipping fortune for the work I needed, but it is all good and have not had any problems.

The lady at the bank's husband did not have a good experience.  His implants are all falling out.  Now he has to get them fixed but doesn't want to do it in Cuba again.  The fixes are going to cost him what he would have paid initially.

Buyer beware.

Ya she knows that,GTMO is a whole country to itself and has no sanctions!   She was talking about the "rest" of the Island!

BTW Nat,Ford is no longer the mayor of TO. so your joke is a bit dated!!!

NJ is not like Ont.  I dare you to find a single igloo in NJ!

And of course the RCPP would never be found in Jersey but you knew that. :devil
