Aces High Bulletin Board

First off, I'll say it's been awhile since I commented on these forums. I visit sometimes to see how Aces High is going and how the members are doing from time to time. However, this time I must tap into the knowledge some here may possess in relation to hooking up dual monitors (of different sizes) for editing purposes.
I have one monitor 1900x1200 and one 1200x1200 I would like to hook up to the same computer. However, I am unsure what 'part' I need.
I have a Geforce 660 2gb graphics card (upgrade in the future, but for now this will do), and would like to use the 1900x1200 as main screen for gaming/editing, then the 1200x1200 for editing or surfing the web while gaming. The issue I am having is finding the adapter I need to get this secondary monitor hooked up.
From what I understand the main monitor uses a DVI-A male adapter. However, I don't know if I need a DVI-D Single or Dual link adapter. I also read (via https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Digital_Visual_Interface , scroll down for diagrams), that there is a DMS-59 adapter, but I am not sure if my graphics card is made for that. It has two ports, a DVI-A and what appears to be a DVI-D port, but I don't know if it can 'handle' a dms-59 a 2 for 1 plug in.
The other issue is, I looked up a DVI-D adapter but end up finding this http://www.showmecables.com/product/HDMI-Female-to-DVI-D-Male-Adapter.aspx which has a HDMI hook up (I think :headscratch: ).
Obviously, I've never done anything like this before, so I am very much out of my element. Any help on this matter would be much appreciated.

Did you try plugging the second monitor into the video card with whatever cable you have for it?

Yeah, what I have right now is the DVI-A which is currently being used for my (what would be 'main') monitor 1900x1200, then I need a different one for the secondary 1200x1200 monitor. What I'm trying to figure out is, is there a DVI-D that links directly to a monitor (like a DVI-A) or do I need to get one like http://www.showmecables.com/product/HDMI-Female-to-DVI-D-Male-Adapter.aspx then a hdmi to.. "monitor" cable on top of that? (And if so what is it called?)
Thanks for the time and help given. :salute

I have an EVGA GTX 660 and I use this for my second monitor. Single Link DVI (http://www.ebay.com/itm/6-FEET-SINGLE-LINK-DVI-D-DIGITAL-MALE-TO-MALE-M-M-18-1-LCD-LED-MONITOR-CABLE-/390983720652?hash=item5b08721ecc:g:464AAOSwiwVWRLhy)
You only need dual link if you are exceeding resolutions of 1920x1080.

Well what do you hook from that to the monitor? I don't recall what the monitor 'female' part is called. But I know it won't hook to that, so what do you use from that 6ft cord to the monitor?

If your monitor only has VGA you could try this. DVI To VGA (http://www.ebay.com/itm/5FT-1-5M-DVI-I-Dual-Link-24-5-Male-to-VGA-Male-Video-PC-Monitor-Cable-Cord-/280967745111?hash=item416afb8e57:g:2QIAAMXQ0pNRwN1h)

That might work. Going to order and see if it does, not sure if I need 24 pin or 18 pin but going to get it and if it does great, if not just find an 18 pin variant. Thanks for the help :)
Merry Christmas :salute :airplane:

As long as it goes to VGA, which I'm only assuming your secondary monitor is, it should work.
Good Luck.
Merry Christmas.

For what I understood by looking at the specs of Geforce 660 (http://www.geforce.com/hardware/desktop-gpus/geforce-gtx-660/specifications) it supports four displays through two DVI's, one HDMI and one DisplayPort.
Your monitors both might have a DVI. In that case use the connector with more holes for the bigger one and the other for the smaller one, although with the resolutions you mentioned it might not make any difference. If the smaller monitor only supports VGA, you might have got a DVI to VGA adapter along with your card. If not, get one or the cable Coogan mentioned. In any case there's no rocket science involved. Get a fitting cable for each monitor and that's basically all that's needed. Bigger resolutions would need more attention but that's another story.

After getting both hooked, go to the Nvidia (or Windows) monitor settings, set the bigger monitor as #1, set the monitors to be in "Extended desktop" mode and choose whether the extra monitor is on the right or left.
