Title: Exciting!!!
Post by: JunkyII on January 08, 2016, 05:40:13 PM
We Are very close to going to an open beta.
We have a few sound things to complete and then if things are stable, we will move on to open beta.

Will the open BETA be open to active accounts or everyone?

I ask because I think it would be awesome to boost the player base if the BETA was open "free to play"....think it would be up long enough that those new players would get passed the learning curve and the old players who left will be more inclined to try AH out again and possibly get the bug going again.

I quoted FTP because maybe only give those players a handful of rides (P51B, Spit9, 109G2, B26, Panzer, FW190A5, Ostwing, M3, C47)

Anyone can play the alpha right now, As long as they are a paid subscriber and have a forum account.

No! As a long paying customer I think that if someone does not want to try the two free weeks then they are not looking for this type of game. This game would be worse off with Xbox/ps2 types. You don't want those looking for instant gratification. They will be the ones looking for a code or hack to look good instead of playing and learning.

The target group should be the folks who like the history of the time frame. WWII aircraft buffs.

You can download and try out patch91 now. It is the best patch so far with incredible ambient sounds the game has never had before. Check out the new battle ship. Just post back any problems you run into in the open alpha forum to help Hitech.

That's OK, they can get their hands on it sooner than later while helping get to the beta. 18 months later I'm praying for the beta as probably are those still here from back then when the first test terrain had mostly 1000ft tall beer bottles all over it.

See I disagree, I don't think making the BETA open to all free to play would attract the Xbox kinds passed the free to play portion...they may try but maybe we do find a few who like this type of game. Some of the best sticks in this game right now could be classified as "xbox/ps2 types"

You've been using that same line for a while. It's playstation 4 now.

Need a new computer to run beta and don't spend any time PCing anymore, all mobile.

Wouldn't it make more business sense to advertise an open beta, make it free and advertise the hell out of it and then charge after the new fish have taken the hook?

You would estimate that all of the current AH players will cross over so that is guaranteed income and bankable. Expansion and increased longevity and income will only be activated by new players.

What’s a targeted Facebook advert worth? Facebook is pretty much a middle age device now and viewed as a little passé by many. That means that targeting Facebook subscribers with military or public service interests hits the mark.

That's completely false...POTW Facebook has like 30 members in it...your a minority if you don't have a Facebook.

I’m always getting Facebook ads for services and items that are akin to my interests. I am not tech smart to work out their methods.

All I know is I keep getting “suggested posts” for cricket, holidays in Samoa and cut price snowboards. How do they do this? And more importantly, it works.

I meant Facebook is seen by many as “nerdy” now that it is filled with middle age people.  It’s also an indictment that every positive thought is met by at least five going in the opposite direction. There’s plenty of time to be a “grumpy old man” in the retirement home.

Keep playing the marching song Junky – well played.

You gents should cut Junky some slack. He is fresh out of the service and making this a new years come back into the forum and the game. I guess we got a bit stale while he was gone. Remember when we all had this much get up and go about this game? He's just showing off his right stuff while he shakes off the rust.

How many people between the age of 18-35....and how many of them have Facebook? Because that's the crowd to market a video game to, AKAK can probably confirm the average age of gamers better...Do I think Facebook ads are the way to go? Nope personally I think Youtube is better but to say that the people we are trying to draw to the game don't have a Facebook is absolutely without a doubt wrong.

I'm very excited with the upcoming beta, and I just got me a new shade account, so ftp or not I'll be there

And yes,  the PlayStation is at its 4th iteration now, the 2nd was released 15 years ago :P Note that partly because the ps4 has a x86 processor, a large part of the PC games are cross platform now, and share a good chunk of their user base.

With all of the AI testing and sheep stealing and flag grabbing we have done for the last 12 months. I'm betting AH3 will have something for everyone.

The HQ no longer has a radar control building that I can see. There is a giant flack building, personnel homes, a big administration building and lots of 88s. There is a new Flack base with 63 88mm on it to protect the HQ. The last map we saw those on had two next to each HQ. We have a new battle ship and completely new field objects replacing every field type in AH2.

Anything else like changes to game play, war win, resupply functions, and back end environment control functions. Hitech looks to be keeping that for the big day. Running troops into the new map room bunker doesn't seem to trigger anything.

I hope everyone in this post has tried out at least one of the patches since December. Patch 91 is the best so far.

Looking forward to the Beta.

Short of setting up a link to the AH website, what else can we use in FB to help promote?  I came across a FB page of my old Battalion and want spread the word.  I think I could recruit a few there...

Honestly the best thing IMO is to try to get ADs on War Thunder/IL2/World of tank videos on Youtube.

I've said precisely the same thing since the news of a new AH version - there is obviously a huge potential customer base out there, WW2 games are far, far from "dead", what with the hundreds of unique hosts having downloaded and played the games Junky mentioned in addition to some others.  Getting new customers from existing customers in the WW2 genre that haven't even heard of AH (common when talking about AH to WT/WoT/Il2/RoF/Etc/etc players) has got to be simpler/cheaper than generating leads from out of the blue.

I don't know how exactly HTC does this, get their game to these players, Junky's idea of getting Ads in front of players of such game, if it can be done, would work IMO.  I do think that even getting a small fraction of the tens of thousands of players of these games - to whom AH is an unknown - to try the new beta,  would be a resounding success in terms of numbers here.  That's how I came to know AH back in 1999 when it first began, I was a relatively new players to MMO/WW2 at Warbirds, and was told by word of mouth by blind luck about AH, and new a superior product when I saw it.

I hope whatever HTC has planned works, as there is obviously a huge interest in WW2 games out there right now, and riding that wave is fortunate timing for the upcoming beta release IMO.  1000 players online at a time in this game would be fantastic, while it does probably create some new problems of its own, huge numbers has got to be preferred to small and would make a lot of current players happy too.

i would imagine HTC will have sidebar ads all over facebook and youtube. also theyll have those ads marketed directly to you when you are surfing other sites on the web. like sites you would think have nothing to do with this or aviation type things.  im pretty sure that FB and YT uses an ad service or platform that ties into most clickable ads. so if you click an ad for flight lessons, youll start seeing aviation ads at sites like earthcam or what ever other sites you surf.
once that happens AH will start popping like war thunder did. i predict that we will get a ton of war thunder players.
for myself, when those new players get here, i plan on teaching as many as i can about how to play the game smart and aggressive. hopefully get some balls back in this game.

I hope what you say is true about the ads, but going by the last 10 years, I would doubt it very much.  :(

They have a presence on both Facebook and Twitter and even hired someone to manage the accounts. The last post on twitter was Sept 18th, and on Facebook they have a half dozen over the last week, but the one before that was in November. Social media is something that you have to build a buzz about.... hashtags and trending. Posting once a month isn't going to bring the AH name in front of anyone.

To generate interest, those two pages should be updated a few times a day easily. Post pictures from the Alpha, they just posted a video profiling the new sound effects, add more. Shorts showing a pass on buffs, maybe a clip from the big bomber stream they had, a GV taking a shot, another where a round land close to the GV, carpet bomb from a ground view. There are over 100 planes and vehicles, start taking some screen shots and post them.

If they still have a person managing the pages have them post stories, plans, anecdotes about what is going on in the game. Quick "live" updates..... "so and so from such and such squad just dropped the troops to capture airfield A22!", "so and so just landed X amount of kills in an F6F! WTG!", V47's NE spawn has a lot of action going on as the bish look to set up camp!" Any of these little "head lines" can be added to both pages in minutes and will draw attention to the game. Heck those of us that already subscribe and are stuck at work would be all over it just to see what was going on. Those adding more comments will generate MORE attention. Heck have an on-going post that comes up at the same time everyday laying out a battle plan.... how many buffs flying at what alt  while fighters grab and forge ahead to cap the target and so on. Once the plan is layed out as a "what if" zip the plan and post it for people to drop into the mission planner as a "saved mission" to try out with their squads.

This is the easy stuff. It doesn't cost a ton of money where you need to worry about the return on the investment. They already have the pages up, they already have someone to post, all they need to do is DO IT! More short videos on youtube will be found by those on those "other games" when they look for videos on flying, or tanking. Grab them with the first link, and keep them interested with new, fresh info everyday. Next thing you know they will be signing up just so they are half decent at the game for when AH3 comes out.

Now remove the percentage on FaceBook who are AI, created by an algorithm to fudge statistics, and make 10 people look like 100,000 at a time to sway public opinion. Or to create the illusion of likes on a business page.

I don't use Facebook.  My kids don't have Facebook.  Neither my in-laws nor my family, any of them, have Facebook.  The people I know that do, HATE advertisements getting in the way of them creeping on other people's Facebook pages.  We use the phone and Skype.

Facebook and YouTube advertising is an annoyance which makes people NOT pay attention to it.  A total pain in the arse.  Admit it.  To say you don't first-chance-click-away that crap or you would actually pay attention to it makes you a liar lol.

This is a niche game.  You need to fire your shots with a rifle, not a shotgun for max effect downrange...define your target audience first.  Gamers are only a small small part of it.  I bet half this community ONLY play this game.  Its all I play, save the stupid iPad games I diddle with on flights.

Shotgun marketing is a waste of time.  Advertise with a .50 cal or .338 Lapua.  Its more expensive but its max effective range is longer and its hits produce results, lol as long as you have clearly defined your target and its whereabouts.

Exactly.  I still think the best potential customers are the pool that have played or are playing WT, WoT, IL2 and so on.  Maybe even the Star Citizen crowd, and I only say that because HOTAS have become VERY, VERY popular over there, I've never seen so many threads and questions about CH products, Thrustmaster, and Saitek.  A ton of those players have invested big time in HOTAS systems, including many who have spent 500$ alone (CDN) on custom pedals from the top 3 custom makers.  These are the exact type of potential customers that might like AH3 if they heard of it - Star Citizen is different, yet still going to be an MMO, so those players may like a WW2 MMO, and the fact that they have the necessary equipment (many of them with Hotas systems) already for AH makes them a prime target IMO.  Nothing like WT players, but next down the list.

It can be done, the fact that WT has had so many tens of thousands of players, along with other WW2 games, show that while AH is a niche game with a monthly sub, that there is potential players out there, which simply just haven't heard of Aces High.  Get even low single digit percentages of those tens if not hundreds of thousands playing other WW2 games, and it'll be back to "1st world problems" here such as having to split arenas due to too many players.

Absolutely with one minor change:  Hitechs best opportunity is with those who have already played AH1, and AH2.  They are known quantities.  Get them back first and suddenly you have one full arena waiting on the new subscribers.

Besides, these new BBS Warriors like Wizz have no idea what it's like to be tormented you the likes of the very best that played this game.  It will be fun and motivating to watch lol.

Changeup, you have a Twitter...but no Facebook that's surprising since like 70% of online adults in the US use Facebook...only like 25% use Twitter...those numbers may have changed probably more like 80% now...

I will say this, Facebook isn't the place to try to advertise a game but Youtube for sure is...Found out about War Thunder, Rise of flight, and World of Tanks from YouTube ads over Call of Duty videos...

Agreed, I've said it all along in past posts and it's just implicit for me now that many will "come out of the woodwork" once the beta is close to complete.  At least I hope so.

Youtube has a huge, huge gaming footprint.  I think I watch at least a dozen various gaming channels, and that doesn't even count the Tech channels about gaming hardware.  Every game has a pile of experts/fans/etc with channels - DCS I think I have 3 or 4 alone, and those are just the best ones that I picked to subscribe to.  I'm sure Il2, WT, WoT, and others have even more fan channels.  Start getting your claws into those viewers, as most of the vids I watch catch 50k views plus in just a day or two, with around 500k average subscribers, some with millions that regularly get 150k views on average vids, and higher on well received videos.  Junky is correct about YT IMO, in addition to other areas, it's a great place, perhaps THE place to target.

I'm not sure how the purchasing end of adsense or whatever add company you deal with as an add purchaser works with YT - if you can select where/what channel/video you want your paid add to run - heh, I can think of a few right now that would be perfect target audiences as they are already play flight sims and have HOTAS hardware, or at the very, very least a good stick.

HITech needs to brand itself.  The game is AH, the brains are Hitech Creations.  Your logo is actually pretty damn cool.  Put it to work.  You don't have to say anything, you simply need to show your work.  EVERYWHERE...get a publicist and turn loose the dogs of guerrilla marketing.

Youtube
Twitter
Facebook
TV
Apparel (t shirt sales are easy advertising and cheap initial buy in and easy to recover if they look cool and you can private label it "Hitech Skins", "20mmShirts".  I bet Waffle can design one helluva a cool tshirt and embroidered hat)  50 shirts in each size will cost about 7.00 a shirt...full color.  Big Frog Shirts in Flower Mound)
Gamer sites
Magazines
Trade Journals

I know you already do some of this but I thought I'd throw that out there.  This is just a drop...
