Title: We're Modelling The A6M5b but require help (Calling All Resident Historians!)
Post by: Kazaa on January 13, 2016, 10:04:19 AM
A friend and I have undertook a project to recreate a fully functional A6M5b in a modern day game engine (Unreal Engine 4). We picked this model of aircraft because it has a relation to previous projects and hopefully future projects too.

My friend, who's creating the 3D mesh, is using Aces High's version of the A6M5b as a base reference for the internals. Because of time constraints, we're not able to do as much research as we would like. In hindsight, we would have picked an aircraft more well know and easier to research. That being said, what we're doing is mainly a test of technologies so absolute historical accuracy is not a requirement at this point.

I've chosen to start with the front panel first as it's the main component of the cockpit. My question is as follows: Would anyone know if there's anything critical missing from the Aces High's version of the A6M5b front panel? Also, I assume everything labelled is correct?

1: Horizon
2: Rudder Level(?)
3: Compass in degrees
4: Clock
5: Speedometer
6: Compass
7: RPM
8: G-Meter
9: Engine temp
10: Angle of Attack
11: Flaps angle in degrees. Landing hook???
12: Altimeter
13: Manifold pressure
14: Oil pressure
15: Fuel (aux, left wing, right wing)
16: Trim
17: Undercarriage
18: Does nothing in AH but looks like it would have been the landing hook? (has compass texture)
19: Beacon
20: Oil shutter

There are no AOA gauges in WW2 fighters. Number 10 is the Vertical Speed Indicator.

AH uses some std gauges for all aircraft that are not found on the originals in the same form like the gear indicator and internet connection beacon.

You'll probably want to find some actual cockpit pics or manuals.
