Lyric may need to chime in here...but....
Do we have ANY 361st FG skins WITHOUT the OD top wing and fuselage?
I found some pictures but they're hard to work with...

I like this restored Warbird from this side, but it is OD on top.

Are there any out there? Maybe we don't need any more 361st skins, but I don't see a lot out there to work with. :salute

There are two from 361FG. Both are from the 374FS (B7) and both have their invasion stripes over painted with OD green. I'd say that you're free to do any E9 coded machine you want.

Right on! Okay then. :)
Now I need to find a good E9 candidate...

So which is more interesting....?
B Pony with NMF and only black stripes:

Or same Pony with Invasion stripes outlined in black pin stripes (behind E9-S):

The Invasion Stripe method used by this group is interesting. But I kinda' like the bare metal wings with the black stripes... :headscratch:

I like the pin-striped invasion markings myself. E9-S would be my choice.

S is one I have considered but I don't think I can do that nose art... (I will get the rest of it done and then see if I can tackle that--but it is probably a bit beyond my skill level.)
I am tending to agree with you on the pin stripes. I looked through the other skins and this one would be different. There are already enough NMF Bs out there with the black bands so may as well do the Invasion Stripes.

What's the problem with the artwork? It looks like just some lettering on a black background.

Not sure I can get those letters to look good. I can try it...

Here it is so far. I am doing E9-V for now since I can always switch to S later with some minor tweaks.
Have not added noise to the yellow nose yet.

Nice so far.
Have you considered the early version of E9-R? http://www.warbirdinformationexchange.org/phpBB3/viewtopic.php?f=3&t=19452
In any case, beware the colors in that profile for E9-S. There is no yellow on the top of the vert stab on any of these planes - it's silver, and any blue will be the same "Insignia Blue" as the national insignia. Also, the rudder trim tab and wingtips look more like black and not blue to me.
Also pertaining to your shade of blue, I think it's too blue. Look at the color picture from your first post in this thread, it's a very dark blue. Here's the shade I use for US insignias: Red-19, Green-30, Blue-42, Hue-211, Saturation-55, Value-16

1) I saw that one early on in my search but the nose art of the girl is a bit beyond my abilities unless you have some magic trick you can share. :)
2) I think you once posted a screenshot of a color guide. Do you still have that so I can adjust what I have? I think this is a case of "creep". My colors have drifted over time as I try to clean up the insignia.
3) Good info on the tip colors. Will definitely keep that in mind.
I can at least get E9-V done and then work from there to add to it and possibly switch it to -S or -R.

Insignia Blue right?

Ignore the pixilation. I am trying to hit the color before I add noise.
This is driving me nuts.
-
That looks good for a faded Insignia blue. I would also experiment with the color of your E9 lettering - it seems like a deep navy blue close to the color seen in the reference photo. Try both while also playing with a 10% fade on the darker tone, and go with which ever you like most.

Okay I will try it. :salute

How's this?
-
I went a little more faded on this side with the letters...
Is the tail number also faded as you suggest or is it solid black?
-
you nailed it. Make the insignias the same color as the letters, then fade the insignias to match - this assumes that you fade in a separate layer, if fading is done to the color layer itself then just match it. Also, the letters should be made black afterward - they're not blue.
